Do you mean the LQ4 (iron block 6.0 truck motor)?
The LS4 is the transverse mounted motor used in FWD cars. I guess you could figure a way to mount it and hook to a trans, but might be difficult to start (no block mounts for a starter on the LS4).

It has different dimensions than a reg ls also. It's shorter by just a little

I was going to say, isn't the LS4 a front wheel drive version of the 5.3? I would think that the LS4 would more expensive than the truck 5.3

5.3 truck engines are dirt cheap, I would look or one of them instead. If nobody has done it before, you may find out the hard way what isn't compatible.

Edit...I just found this; the bellhousing pattern is not the same as LS

The LS4 is best left for FWD and Fiero conversions. It has some compromises that the truck motor does not.

It really is a bit shorter to fit between the frame rails. I hear it bolts to the F40 6-speed transverse transmission, which is of no use to a RWD layout.

I know the stock intake is severely restricted due to the low hoodline it was designed for. I was the engineer initially responsible for it in a past life.

It also has cylinder deactivation that requires an ECU to drive that a carburated application would not have.

You will be cheaper in the long run to pay more for the truck 5.3L or even better the 6.0L.

many of the ls4 shortcomings are an easy fix/mod. it important to note that the accessory drive is unique as well, which may or may not be an issue. I'm sure you could find a fix for the odd bellhousing bolt pattern with some work. The number one caution you have to know that will be the biggest potential issue is that the crank is 10 and 13mm shorter on each end!

on the bright side it is 6.0l, all aluminum, and uses ls6 heads. they can make some power

They are 5.3l arent they? I think there are too many cheap truck blocks out there to try to make everything work with one of these.
