II Much Vent in a Sec Gen Camaro?

Who has one installed? I can't seem to find a location to put one. Yhe truck appears to have a good flat spot, but its not flat underneath,

Hmm... I've purchased two of them, but have not installed them yet. What about on the sides instead of in the main floor pan? I seem to recall that those areas are flat from the installation of a trunk-mounted battery...

Yes, the area is nice and flat in the trunk, but its not under the car. On the sides, that's where the frame is and rest of it is directly above the tank.

Can you post up some photos? We've had them installed with success on early second gens but I know they made some changes in later years.

Have you decided where to mount the can yet?

On my project, we decided to mount a pair of the cans in the area of the picture above. I don't know if your car has this or not, but my car had some kind of sealed vent tank in a pocket behind the rear seat, right above the center section. It was held in by a couple of spot welds. I drilled those out and removed the tank, and there is an opening from there to under the car. The hoses come out of an opening in that second level of the panel which you are also having a problem with.

So we cut out an opening slightly larger than what existed on the car, and cut open an area large enough to access the bottom of the 2 cans in the panel shown above. We're also making a 'mount' for the 2 cans which will be bolted to the floor which will allow me to remove the whole assembly if I ever need to take them back out for some reason.

I don't have pictures yet, but I will this weekend. It's going to be just about a perfect spot for me, although I wasn't thrilled about cutting that panel. Now that we have though, it seems like it was the right choice.

My previous idea of mounting them off to the side wouldn't work as there was not a good way to run the hoses downhill the whole way. Also the tire would through stuff right at the bottom of the can, which wouldn't be good either...

Have you tried to put it where the factory vent was? I think that is what carbuff is suggesting.

The later Sec Gen Camaros have a charcoal can in the engine bay. I dont have that device behind the seat.

I ended up buying Finch's vent. I can simply drill small holes for the lines rather than one big one for the entire unit. The good thing is it doesnt matter what the sheet metal looks like under the trunk because all I need in the trunk is a flat spot to mount it (which there is).

I assume the vent(s) should be mounted above the fuel door entry opening correct? Any liquid will seek its level - that same relative spot on my Nova may not be above the filler opening - need to check.
