Good question! We are referring to two characteristics of the matte that make it harder to maintain:
1. The matte has a more textured (less smooth) finish. This results in more little nooks and crannies for dirt, brake dust, and yucky road slime to accumulate. The smoother gloss finishes have less texture and thus fewer places for gunk to build up and hide. And the smoother finishes are easier to wipe clean.
2. The matte finishes are more susceptible to UV breakdown. I'm not a chemist, but there is something about the chemical makeup of the gloss that better resists ultraviolet ray damage. So without the gloss, the matte finishes aren't wearing sunscreen.

OK, this second wheel that I posted in this thread is the GZ3R racing wheel from the Forgeline Competition Series. You can find sizing and pricing for this GZ3R wheel at: http://www.forgeline.com/products/co...gz3r&pricing=1

Just bear in mind that the racing version of this wheel (and all of the wheels from the Competition Series) are designed for racecars and therefore have as much non-critical material as possible removed from the wheel centers (to keep the weight down and make it easier for the pit guns to access the lug nuts). As a result, the Competition Series wheels will NOT accept the standard Forgeline aluminum press-in center cap. This is no big deal on a racecar, but on a street car, you might want to protect the end of your hub/spindle snout and not leave it so exposed.

Technically, if you really want the racing version (GZ3R), then you could always use the bolt-on Competition cap (in which case, we drill and tap a few smaller holes and attach the cap with fasteners). See: http://www.forgeline.com/products/ac...ition-cap.html

But you might also consider the street version of this wheel from the Performance Series, the GZ3. The GZ3 is the same wheel as the GZ3R, except that it has a slightly thicker center around the lug area and is machined to accept the standard press-in aluminum center cap (to protect that hub spindle). So no need to drill and tap an extra set of holes to use a center cap.

I hate to ask this, since you would know better than I would, but are you sure that's a GA3R? The spokes look more like a GZ3 than a GA3. The GA3 spokes aren't evenly spaced, while the GZ3 is evenly spaced all the way around. Maybe it's just the angle of the pictures, but that looks more like a GZ3 than a GA3 to me. Doesn't matter since I love both designs, just curious...

In theory, they should not be any darker, just glossier. Imagine the titanium with a partial gloss.

This thread is a few years old now. Is this still the case? It could be the pictures I see online but it looks like thet Satin Gunmetal is darker than the Titanium...

Yes, the base coat is the same with Titanium and Satin Gunmetal. The only difference is the gloss level. However, the different gloss levels definitely affect the light reflection, in photos. And different lighting and different cameras make it very difficult to get color balance consistency regardless. That's why display wheels and event exhibits are so useful. You really need to see them in person to get a true sense of what these colors look like when filtered through your eyes, interpreted by your brain, and under the same light.

That being said, I can also ship you some color sample panels. PM me, if you want, and I can mail a couple flat panels out to you.
