New to the board, my name is Russ Murray. Several of you are on my facebook page so I decided to check out the forums! I work for Ravenworks/Porter Mufflers here in Maple Grove, MN and currently have no project cars, but that will change soon!

Ask a question? My wagon has a dual 2.5" into a 3" Flowmaster Y pipe which goes into a Dynomax bullet, then over the axle and exits out the back through dual resonator tips. See page 21 of my build thread (link in my signature) for photos of the system. I had planned on putting another muffler out back just upstream of the resonators but I had to just get it thrown together in time for my move across country and didn't have time to decide what muffler to get. I had a Flowmaster 40 series where the Bullet is now, and I really liked it's sound, but the frame bracing I built doesn't allow room for it anymore.

Now the car is ridiculously loud, and at lower rpms around 1500-2000 it pops like a nasty old glass pack. I can't stand that sound. When I'm on it full throttle it's still a bit raspy for me. Here's a link to a video...

Ultimately I just want a smooth mellow low tone cruising and loud but not raspy when I'm into it. I'm curious, your mufflers are pretty small diameter (which would work great in my limited space out back), but being small are they fairly raspy like a glass pack?

In your opinion would another small muffler on the back side help me all that much? Thanks for your experience and insight...

Wow, that is a crazy-cool build you have going there and your exhaust man is an artist - I need his name so I can refer folks to him!!! I also listened to the video, definitely a glass-pack sound. Porter Mufflers use stainless steel wool, springs, and a 16 gauge shell so there is much less of the raspiness and practically zero resonance because of the thick shell. It gives a unique, mellower sound than most mufflers with a straight-through design. Here are a couple of links...

The narrower body is perfect for applications like your's with limited space and we've put them on our flowbench, they are flow about the same as most every performance muffler. Stick with the single muffler, sometimes using two that aren't "tuned" to be used in series can cause some unusual results! One potential issue you may run into is that they are heavier (because of the casing) so make sure it's well supported. Give them a listen!

One of my co-workers has a 73 Firebird, but it is in Florida which is a pain in the rear to get it to MN.

Glad to hear you like them! I think they have about the coolest sound of all mufflers, but I may be a bit biased! lol

I lived in New Tampa for 18 years! Yea, big change! Minnesota is far more family oriented, nice people up here. Florida is great but it's tough to form long-term friendships there since folks move in and out all the time. Right now, though, I am missing the 80 degree weather!!!
