NAPA C-5 front caliper?

I'm looking to do a tight budget build on my 72 nova and want to do a c-5 front brake set-up. I priced around and KORE3 has about the best price for the c5 zo6 calipers. So after that I called NAPA and they sell the caliper with bracket for $75. They are not red and they do not have the corvette on them but that really doesnt matter.

My question is would these be a good part to use?
Has anyone used them?
What are the differences?

Any info on this set-up is welcome

the calipers and bracket is complete with pins ect. Just need to add pads and rotors, plus the KORE3 adapter kit and lines

I believe that is without the core charge. You need an old one to turn in. The core charge could be around $67.50.

I got mine used on fleabay for about $150 for the pair with abutment brackets, pins, pads and even the hoses . That was a year or so ago, should be even better pricing now?

yep they do have a core charge but I should be able to find some to turn in so that helps with the overall cost.

Just really want to know who makes them and if they would be worth the money or just get the PBR calipers

Start browsing the corvetteforum. I got a set of front and rear for 150 shipped a couple weeks ago. Added a brake motive rotor and pad kit for 110 shipped. Using Kore 3 brackets and lines.

I trust Napa parts more than I do the other chain stores... I would feel good about running those calipers. I used a Duplicolor spray paint for calipers... it's held up great.

Any thoughts on the LS1 fron brakes? is it a waste of my time or a good idea to save some money?

They are good calipers, but the stock rotors warp easily. One of the bigger suppliers had a brembo made replacement that was supposed to be pretty good.

Their basically the same as C5 calipers. I think the C5's are a little stronger, but braking-wise, negliable difference. The LS1 brakes will do great.

But go for the C5 brake brackets and C5 rotors, it'll definitely be a noticeable upgrade.

So it looks like I will just try and find some used C5 calipers and brackets. I would hate to install the stock LS1 fronts and not be happy with it, just trying to save some money where I can. The search continues...

You wouldn't notice a difference in the calipers. The C5 rotor upgrade is common among the 98-02 Camaro owners as it virtually gives them a complete C5 upgrade.

Basically. You need the brake pad abutment bracket, c5 pads, and a c5 rotor. Give Tobin a ring, he has them in stock. He talked me through the entire upgrade. You end up with almost everything being C5 parts except the caliper.

EDIT: You must also have the correct conversion bracket, otherwise the caliper won't seat correction on the larger rotor.

Thanks Dan... that might be something to look into. For now I'm really happy with the LS1 front/rear setup.
