      wheel size question

So I finally have the wheels up on the car. I figured the wheels would look larger on the car since it went from the 14" front/15" rear setup to 18"s. The fronts look good IMHO, but the rears look tiny. The tires are just junk tires (275/35/18). So my question is do you think a taller tire will look better, or should I cut my loses on the rears and put a set of 20s on the back?

Add more tire! I have a 315/30/18 out back and they really fill up the space. I seriously considered the 18/20 combo but could never find a good tire stagger that would be a reasonable o.d. and have the right sidewall height F/R.

However long you think your project will take, double it and you might be halfway right.

Keep the 18s. A slightly taller tire in back would help.....and center the rear wheel. I like the idea of keeping the same size all the way around if you can. if tire life doesn't matter then a 275 40 on the rear would be perfect for a little rubber rake.

If you went to 20s on the back the fronts would look small then and eventuall you would end up with 26s all the way around....that's bad.

Another vote here for a taller tire. 275/40, or 285/40 if you can fit it.

I think that is what looks so odd. When we put the tube chassis in, we slid the rear back slightly to allow a taller slick if I decided to take it drag racing. It's able to take up to a 30" tall tire now. Right now, there is very little sidewall, so maybe the 285/40 would fill it up a bit more.

Yep, tire diameter is huge. I don't care what kind of car it is a centered 30" tire will not be a centered 27" tire. Reset the rearend for a 28" slick and run a 275-40-18 street tire (just shy of 27") and call it good.

Building these cars is just a long series of compromises, when you are all done hopefully you make the right ones.

There is so much truth to that statement, it needed to be quoted, haha.

I'm not a fan of newer cars because they all look the same. The technology in those cars however are awesome. Trying to have a single car that can turn and kick ass in a straight line without compromise is impossible. Glad I asked before all the tin work was done and end up screwing myself!

The falcon has an intersting wheel well for tire/wheel sizes. Have you seen my falcon? It looks like my back end is lower because half of my wheel is covered by the quarter panel.
