      Aluminum center console kits opinion

      Gents,

working on 2 different styles of center consoles and need thoughts or opinions.

First one would be a one piece all aluminum center console that turns up to the dash at the proper angle, it will end about half way between the seats. The customer will, cut drill tap weld or whatever he wants to, to conform to his build. Again all one piece....shooting for the 200.00 mark...ideas of thickness finish or whatever.

Second...same as above but will look more like the 67-68 Camaro OEM, rather then the curve up to the dash.

Third...pre-cut frame with side pieces that are made with either sheet metal, aluminum, MDF or a type Lexan. The center portion will be pre-cut and bent but blank for the customer to decide what he wants...sides could be painted, upholstered or whatever is desired.

I think this will help guys get a good start on their center console projects, and cut down on costs and time. It will also give enough room to do whatever customizing you see fit. I'm hoping to keep this kit under 300.00 depending on options of material selected.

      Thoughts?

Do you have any photos of what you are designing? I'm interested in something for a 69 camaro.

      As of yet no,

I plan on doing the cunstruction paper mock up of the up swing styled one first....so if I dont get side tracked, should have the pattern done this weekend. Keep in mind though, the corners and bends of the mock up will be more sharp and direct, once the aluminum is bent to form, curves and angles will be more subtle and less aggersive...

I dont have any plans on doing the 69 styled one if your looking for OEM in that year.

Ill try and keep updates going here.

      Thanks Bob

Thanks. No I'm not looking for OEM. Going custom with mine so anything other than OEM I am looking to do. Looking forward to seeing some images. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I'm all about the console matching interior and not looking like an after thought. Great job GRNOVA, that compliments your car well.

If I was to set your console in my Chevelle I would not car for it. With my plastic dash I plan to create a taper in the middle that will flow and flush up to the console. Also will cover dash in a vinyl or leather.

      Always good seeing different options!

Ricoshay, I've been staring at that picture and I cannot for the life of me figure out what it does. Care to explain. Thanks!

Edit: Nevermind I see now, the Camaro shifter has the double levers that go on each side where its open.

I have been searching for a custom console for my 69 camaro. I was surprised theres not much out there. Im looking for something that goes up to the dash and will hold a 7 inch double din DVD player as well as storage compartment that is an arm rest as well. The only thing I've found that I realy like is Feslers custom console but I just cant bring myself to lay down those kind of $$$. If someone had something decent in the 1-2k range I would be all in.

I've been looking for this for some time now. I would love a weld-together kit that I can cut and modify to my liking. My situation is a little different than most. I have a 69 Camaro and have deleted the ashtray. I would like my console to curve, move up the dash and twist in a bit to look like the driver is in a cockpit. I am planning on installing an IPad in the console to go along with my ISIS system, no switches will be installed as I will use the IPad for everything.

Now, I know this setup is a stretch but if I could purchase a weld-together kit I can make the pieces that I need. The fiberglass consoles out there don't work for my application.

Here is another option. Similar to the moderclassics stuff I guess, but can't find too much info on either. That shift gate above looks cools but $275 is pretty high.

      I like your aluminum idea.

Here's one I made from wood.

I have banged out a few of these recently and only takes about a weekend to fab one up.

A card board mock up first, then transfer that to wood or metal of your choice.

      The possibilities are endless.

I think your aluminum idea would be very cool.
