      Morse 3 pt seatbelts

I am having issues with the lower retractor housing hitting my door panel. It took me the longest time to figure which side was which, but I have bent the mount as far as I can and it still hits the door panel (nearly rests on seat on the inside). I can get the door closed, but am trying to make my new door panel and cannot add any foam.

Anyone else have this issue, and if so, how did you solve it?

Brent, I'm right with you on that issue. I had the same issue with my stock door panels, and the issue remained even after making my own door panels. Currently I have stock seats, and I am planning on new aftermarket seats over the winter. But I don't think new seats will have any effect. It's not really any fault of the Morris design, the retracter just needs to be that big to be able to take up all of that unused belt when the belt is not in use.

On the new door panels, I used 1/4" closed cell foam and the foam is left with an indentation. I just live with it. I love my Morris belt system, but sometimes I just wish the recoil was a bit stronger. Maybe a bigger internal recoil spring?

Scott , Are your seat belts aligned with the slot in the reel? You may need to clock the reel so they rewind with out any drag on them. If they still don't recoil properly you can return them for a replacement.

      Brent,
There just isn't much clearance between the seat and door panel on the 67-69 models.Maybe you can have less padding on the bottom of the door panel to keep the reel from contacting the door panel.

      Brent,

Try this, pull the webbing out of the reel as far as it will go several times and let it slowly retract.

This is on a '71 so there is a little more room. The retractor hits the door without the panel installed, so panel thickness is not the issue. I like the belts, just wish the retractor was smaller.

We changed the offset of the bracket on the floor to move the reel inward some time ago but you could have the older design.
Measure the offset you have and let us know that measurement.
We will exchange the mount if needed. Billy

That was the trick Billy, if that was in the install instructions, then I completely missed it. Huge improvement!!

      Seat Belt clearance

Have you tried angling the bracket toward the back seat then rotate the reel to align the seat belt in the slot so it reels in and out smoothly? That would move the seat belt reel back away from your seat.
I will check the new design bracket and measure the offset.

You don"t have it mounted correctly. The reel sits behind the seat.Angle the bracket back toward the rear seat. Then rotate the reel to align the seat belt in the slot of the reel so it doesn't drag.

      Damn......that sucks.

If anyone got it working better, you should post pictures before other people get into this same mess.

The offset in the bracket is to provide clearance for the door panel so it should be mounted behind the seat. There are too many variables with the installation, such as seats and door panels to have a set angle to mount the seat belt assemble .Just mount them at the angle you have the best clearance and then rotate the reel so the webbing is not dragging on the reel slot.

      3point Convertible seat belts

We have them for hard tops and are looking at making them for convertibles.
We would like to see how much interest there is as designing a Safe set takes a considerable amount of time and testing. Mounting the 3rd point on the shelf beside the rear side window is not a good idea.

I would def be interested in a set for 1st gen vert, and I was planning on doing that exact thing with the coupe belts. I figured if I reinforced the area it would be strong enough. Or are you referring to the position of the belt on the occupant if its mounted on there? My thought was that is has to be safer than a lap-only belt. My wife will be driving the car & I want more than a lap belt...

      3 point Seat belts

      Scott,
Not really as Safe as a lap belt, because if the bolt pulled thru the panel you would have about 3 feet of belt before it ever locked up again. We have the 3 points that bolt into the factory mounting locations for a coupe.
