      335 17 tires on an 11" rim

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions..... I am looking to run 17"x11" rims (Torque Thrusts) with 335 35r17 hoops. Is this a good combo? I have DSE mini tubbed the 69 Camaro, I am hoping that the 11" rim will make the tire run a tad narraow over the 13.5" listed on Kuhmo's web site.

335/35R17 size tire is not very popular and you may have problems finding them. Make sure you can get the tires you want before you purchase the wheels.

A tire that wide should really be on a 12 or 13" wheel. I would stick with a 315/35/17 on an 11" wheel, although it won't be nearly as tall.

Manufacture suggest 11-13" wheel for that size, I think he would be fine.. a 315/35/17 would be perfect.

I have the same set up you are going with, 17 x 11 with 335/35/17. The tires fit great with minimal buldge of the tire. I suggest you measure twice before you purchase your wheels to get the correct backspace you need but other than that I would'nt think twice about it. Here are a few pics....

I run 315/35/17 on a stock wheel well (other than rolled lips) 2nd Gen Camaro. I too also have 11" TT II's. I did have the Kumohs you mentioned and now run M/T drag radials. The Kumohs had a stiff side wall and are almost square with the 11" wheel. I suspect if you're mini tubbed the 335's will fit just fine but with a little side wall bulge. This may however give a looser feeling than the 315 when driving hard but then again that may depend on pressure as well.

Tyre Size Overall Diameter (mm) Overall Width (mm) Tread Width (mm) Optimum Rim Width (inch) Rim Width Limits (inch) Revs/ Mile Pattern
      315/35WR17 645 326 304 11 10.5-12.5 794 V70A
      335/35WR17 660 322 314 11.5 11.0-12.5 776 V70A

I found them to be stickier than conventional street tyres but they did wear more quickly. I'd measure again just to be sure....

      You got that right!

18" wheels is a much better choice for sooooo many reasons. BFG is going to be making more sizes in 17" tires but how soon they get here is not known. I was questioned by a rep at the Motorstate Challenge about my tire selection and sizes and since I have 17"x 10" wheels the choices of tires is very slim to none that have a 200 tw rating for the events.

if you still have your money , buy the 18"s and don't look back.

WOW! That's what I'm talking about....exactly the look I wanted. Did you have to order the rims "special order"...wher did you get them? May I ask, what was the width you ended up with after the tub instal (did you roll the lip)? Thanks for the pics....really cool!!

      Thanks,
I went this route basically because of my budget. Once you get into 12"s or bigger and three piece wheels the price jumps dramatically. I bought the wheels off the shelf from Summit. I dont recall the measurements but I do intend to cut and weld a bead on the lips just for piece of mind.

If I ever fall into money I might spring for some three piece wheels.

I know this is an old thread, but it seems relevant. I have a narrowed 9" and g bar I picked up from a guy that is 54" wide at the discs. I have yet to install it as Im still doing my dse tubs. I was trying to get wheels ordered so i did some measuring and I came up with 4 1/4" backspacing with a 17 x 11. Does this sound right to anyone? I already have 335 35 17 tires so don't try to talk me into 315's. My existing overall width measures 70 1/2 now with 275's. I feel comfortable being that wide as I have room at the outer lip. Is anybody running similar? Thanks for your help in advance.
