      What intake to use

      http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...e_elbows.shtml

Anybody use one of these yet?

I have a Dart Dominator intake for my 548" bbc. I was thinking of using it but hood clearance is an issue.

      what about this,

      http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-71363/

      Anybody have any suggestions?

Ill take a shot. There both from edelbrock so im sure they’ll both work very well. you’ll need to find out if there is a hood clearance issue. And iv never seen the first one before its less likely any one else will have one. But it does in my opinion look a little pieced together. So id do the pro flo xt intake. Good luck

I doubt the Pro-Flo intake will feed your 548. A 90mm opening is stock LS2 size. You didn't post engine specs or expected HP, but I think you're gonna need a bigger boat. A single plane EFI intake with a dominator style throttle body is most likely the best match.

What is the height of your 4500 throttle body? I'm trying to fit this under a steel cowl 70 camaro hood. It will be around 650 to 700hp. What do you think of dominator drop base air filter? My engine builder is concerned about flow with it being to close to the top of the throttle body.

thanks, I have your website bookmarked, I will need someone to convert my Dart. Does anybody else have and intake that is smaller than 6 inches tall?

I've got the pro-flo XT rectangle version on my 540. The inlet can be opened up to 102mm according to edelbrock. A 102mm TB will flow around 1300CFM, plenty for a 540" engine. Edelbrock claims that their 555 crate motor with a 90mm TB makes 720HP, I have no way to verify this personally.

Mine fits under the stock cowl hood on my 69 Camaro. I did need to cut part of the forward cowl duct out, but since the TB is forward mounted the loss of the duct is not a concern for me.

The pro-flo XT is similar in design to a tunnel ram with medium length runners. Its a very efficient looking design.

Any pics? How does it work are you happy with it? What other components did you use? What throttle body did you use?

I think I might have a touch more clearance than you with the longer hood on my 70. I hope it will fit, I didn't even think about porting it out.

      thanks

No pictures, or real experience with it yet I did one test fit on the engine when it was still in the car. I'm using a nick williams electronic TB, edelbrocks fuel rails and injectors. I'm making a science project out of the car and have a 24x crank reluctor and vortec cam sensor setup so I can use a GM PCM, so its going to be probably next summer before I fire it up since I have to build the wiring harness from scratch.

Overall I'm pleased with the quality of the manifold, I like that it has mid length runners and a more high tech look than a converted single plane. Just checked on their site again, Edelbrock rates their pro-flo equipped 555" at 20HP higher than the single plane efi version. 550+ lbs/ft from 2500-6000RPM.

The LS guys are making crazy power with the pro-flo manifolds.

sounds good to me. Why go through all of that trouble?

I'm looking at around 650-700hp. I don't want to run a big hood and I want steel (maybe aluminum if they come out with it)

I’m trying to fit a supercharger under my hood. the other day I took a quick measurement of approximately 12’’ from top of engine block to top of the air filter on a 68 camaro with steel 2’’ cowl hood. I waited for the owner to come back so I could take a more precise measurement. But I had to go and the didn’t come back.

I have a 70 Camaro, I bought a us body 3" cowl dominator hood. I hope it fits. It goes towards the front of the car more than the standard cowl hood.

What throttle body are you running? Are you going 102mm. I found a few 102mm and they seem to have a vacuum tube that sticks up from it, i don't need that in the way.

I've got a Nick Williams setup for electronic throttle. http://hinsonsupercars.com/p-1270-ni...-wire-ls1.aspx

So on a TB like this one http://www.compperformancegroupstore...uct_Code=54102 the tube sticking out of the top part is that what you're not liking?

That tube is the fresh air source for the PCV system on an LS1 engine. The air flowing through the PCV system is metered by the mass air sensor and is figured into the air flow calculations.
Most of the aftermarket cable driven 102mm TBs are going to be set up that way to be installed on f-bodies or trucks. You could remove the tube and plug the hole or use it for the PCV system.

The tube sticks too high for hood clearance. I will spen the money on a billet one if there is a benefit to it. I can get the Edelbrock they used on the 555. I don't know if I need bigger than 90mm. It flows 1100 cfm.
      thanks

Hello, i'm new at this but I read that you have a 69 with an XT intake. Can you upload pics on your hood mods? I want to do the same thing but I'm scared to cut on my car but I think it would look $^*# hot. Any advice would be good.

Any new updates on this manifold? I got a 540 in my '69 with a factory steal cowl hood.

      Thanks

Did you buy the intake yet? I might be selling mine. I have to sell the glass hood that I have. I ordered a steel hood and might have to change the intake. This is on a 70 Camaro. I hope I can keep it,but.......

EFI69 said his fit under a steel cowl hood with cutting out the brace.

I'm getting my hood today and will try to mock everything up so I can figure out what I'm selling.

If you are interested let me know. I can't help with the 69 pics but maybe PM EFI69.
