      NASA CMP weekend

Finally got in a solid track weekend in my racecar at Carolina Motorsports Park this weekend. Between health issues and mechanical failures I have not had a good event all year in my Firebird. So I'm real happy to have a weekend where everything went right. I ran in the DE3/4 run group. Lot's of fast guys to keep me on my toes. Beautiful weather and track conditons. And thanks to my buddy Bobby Jones for driving down yesterday to give me a hand. Made the day go much smoother.
Now if Maxton next weekend goes as well..............

I just made it to the 3/4 group myself. A *lot* more fun, because the competition is a lot better. The skill I need to work on most is getting passed!!!

My next event won't be until January... it seems like a long time from now.

Getting passed doesn't take much skill. Get out there and it is gonna happen. And the DE4s will go by anytime and anywhere. NASA SE has two more events. NCCAR on Nov. 12-13 and Road Atlanta Dec. 5-6. I have 3 more track events I'll be running this year including another at VIR. Just ran the last ever Maxton this weekend. Sad knowing it will not happen again.

My first DE3 was combined with DE4 and TT. There were two other Corvettes out there with me were both TT guys who also instructed the DE1s. One of them just filled my mirrors, passed me, then let me pass him. Then the other 'Vette joined the fun, and we played leapfrog for the whole session. Passing and getting passed at any time takes getting used to, especially after months of "safe passing zones" was drilled in during the DE1/DE2 sessions.

NASA has been running DE3 and 4 together. At first I was not real keen on the idea, but it forces you to use the mirrors and be ever alert. And it will make you better and faster to share the track with better and faster drivers.

Agreed, and is why I said the skill that needs the most work for me is getting passed! Instead of *always* overtaking slower cars and drivers, now I find myself among cars and drivers that can catch and pass me. I can learn from their lines, and it will help me "tighten" my skills. Can't wait for more track time!

It's a disease John. And the only therapy is to do it often.
