AFX Spindles + GW UCA (CTA79-AP) does it work ?

Hi, Does anyone know if the AFX Tall spindle for the Gen 1 Camaro/Firebird work in conjugation with Global West UCA part no CTA79-AP ?

Thats a good question and I'm glad your asking because I might get some clarity here also. I'm sure the Global West arms will go with the AFX spindle. My concerns are where the tie rod end joins the newly located steering arm. I'm thinking that with a 17" rim with 5.5" backspace there may be some interference, but with an 18" rim you might be OK.

Anyone else out there that can chime in?

Alot will have to do with which version of steering arm you are using, i would suggest the Z28 arm as it is the shortest.
i might also suggest the Speedtech Hi Clearance UCA. if you don't already have upper control arms. as it will give the most clearance of ANY control arm on the market. i have 18 x 9.5 with a 6.5 BS on my car and there is 1/2" clearance ( that is with the unisteer rack) it will be tight on a 17 with 5.5 bs.

I'm running Global West ca's, stock chevelle disc brake spindle, Speed Direct rack, and stock Camaro steering arms with 17's and 5.5" backspace and the tie rod end to steering arm connection are already pretty close to the wheel. If the ATS spindle drops the steering arm It would definitely rub.

Anybody have any pictures and/or dimensions of the Z28 arm compared to stock arm?

I will measure the stering arm on my car. If I want to change the stering arm, is it possible to buy the Z28 stering arm, asume that this part is rare. If I use a 17x8 with 4,75, will that clear the tie rod end?

Thanks Guy, that was a big help. Turns out I already have the shortest outer steering arm's part no.'s 3954875 and 3954876 so no help towards getting the ATS spindles there. Looks like I would have to get a larger diameter wheel. Trouble is 18" tires are way more money than 17".

I noticed that CPP carries the shorter steering arm. 4.75 back space will definitely clear your tie rod end if your running the shorter arm. I ran 255's on 17x8 wheels before I went to 17x9.5 275's and I was able to fit 255 size tires on my '69 Camaro.

Blake, just to clarify before I push the purchase button for the AFX spindle:
Can I run 17x8 4,75" BS on my Firebird -68 with the standard steering arm or do I need the Z28 short steering arm.
If the Z28 steering arm is mandatory, who can provide me with this? Do Speed tech sell this? Some other company ?
The reason for going with 17" wheels is that I want a vintage look.
The rim that I think fit the purpose is the Vintage Wheel Works V40, and as I need 11" wide rear rim I have to choose the 17".

Not sure if Blake carries the steering arm but CPP does. If your going to do the spindles you may as well do the arms.
