MotorState Winner does 1:56.9 at VIR

Danny Pop won Motor State this year in a C6Z06 owned by Todd Rumpke. They took the car to VIR for the UTTC. Running in the same trim but with R6's (if I remember correctly) laid down a blistering time for the long track with no aero.

Here is the link to corvette forum with the thread and vid. The vid is a must watch with driver view and track view at the same time with data. No way will I ever be able to drive like that. There is no aero on the car and you can see it dancing around on the long 1.3 mile straight.

Yeahhhh buddy that was fun to watch. It takes some serious b@lls to drive like that. Knowing only a little about VIR and what the fast guys there are running, 1:56 for that setup is seriously hauling.

Mr Popp is in a whole nuther league as far as a driver from us mortals that show up to have fun at the PT events. I have watched previous in cars of Danny at VIR and he was not pushing it like this. That is what 10/10's looks like. Mike

Yep, that is motoring. He ran the same or close to the same in a C5 with aero and 330 rwhp. 5th gear with his foot on the floor going up through the esses about 125 or 130. It was a treat to watch.

Will he be in compliance with the owner/builder rule? Or does The optima even have rules now? I know every qualifier has it's own set. If Danny was allowed to compete in the car and win the qualifier, he sure as hell should be within the rules for the big event. And I totally agree with your statement. He should be hard to beat.

      Mike,

I'm not positive, but I think Danny did all the mods to the car - ie: engine work, suspension work and so forth. I believe he would qualify as the "builder", but I obviously have no official capacity to declare that the case.

You know he's flying when he passes a Radical right at the beginning of the video.

Brandon, There is no question in my mind Danny deserves to be there. I'm wondering if he needs a flunky to carry his tool box or something. Maybe just a little of that speed would rub off on me.

Danny Popp also drove Stacy Tucker's 69 Camaro at our Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge event. He was having a great time. You can read all about it in the upcoming November issue of Grassroots Motorsports and visit: UltimateTrackCarChallenge.com

Ultimate Track Car Challenge is a Time Trial Competition with NO rules (other than safety and licensing). As such, it's an insane speed festival. When the clocks stop running, we analyze the data and share it with the world, so that you can see how your preferred track day car stacks up. I just read the first draft of the article. It's a 48 page section. When choosing cars for the event, we emphasize variety with regard to entries, so you get to compare a hopped up Z06 like Danny's with a hopped up street and track BMW M3 with a Sentra that has a 370Z motor shoehorned under the hood. It's such a good time. Like this!

Man, that was FUN to watch!! I know that Reese Cox has a lot of downforce advantage with the big wing on his car but it was amazing to see him drive around Danny in the straight away at the end of the video... That car must have some serious ponies under the hood!!
