      First ride with Vintage Air!!!

My '69 Camaro Coupe is still very basic (gen1 350 with Magnum t56), but I just wanted to share my experience with my new Vintage Air install.

First I would like to thank Frank at Prodigy for the great price on the kit. I got the basic gen4 kit with the extended hoses to route behind the inner fender...I didn't really end up doing that, but I have plans for paint and smooth firewall in the future.

I'm not a great wrench, but the instructions were Very straight forward and I really didn't have any trouble with the install (took 3 trys to get the correct belt though).

I took the car today to get the AC charged and wouldn't you know it, it blows ice cold and Everything works great!!!! It is 90* today in Northern, VA and within minutes, I was cold enough to actually turn the blower down from high. I would say that the volume isn't quite what you would get from a modern 2010 OEM AC , but it is close and more than good enough.

I rode around for about and hour and enjoyed every second of it. I really didn't see any difference in the engine temp, but I never had a problem to begin with.

If anyone is sitting on the fence about this, Don't. It is AS ADVERTISED and worth every penny.

Congrats on the install. I got my best price at Matts Classic Bowties.
I also ordered the extended hose kit, and everything is hidden in the fender.(two tries on the correct belt)
I'll agree, the VA kit is complete and makes the car more use-able on these 95 deg days....and I have a vert!

Lack of volume is the reason that I am considering VA when I get back to working on my car. The factory air was plenty cold, but the amount of air that actually was blowing out of the vents was pitiful. I'll certainly give Frank a shot at quoting a VA system for my car when the time comes.

I've got an Old Air Products unit in mine and have to say I'm very disappointed in the air volume. I've been thinking looking into the Gen IV unit. The VA website says the in full a/c mode, the air flows through the evap. only, minimizing flow restriction.

I installed a VA max cooler in a 50 buick, took about two days, had it charged and never had any issues. That was three years ago and it will freeze you and the car hasn't any extra insulation. I plan using VA on my elcamino.

+1 Don't need it as of now since mine works fine, lack of volume but thats not the issue. Heat soakis my issue, once it gets hot in the sun it wont cool down. you can feel the heat from the roof on your shoulders!!! Just an inssulation issue there. I would want it just to free up that space, thought about moving the whole assemble in till the accumilator/dryer is against the firewall. would probably be in the passenger seat by then! lol maybe ditch the heater core ( I'm in FL ) and turn the evap sideways to free up some room there. Wonder if anyone has attempted such a feat??? Could save considerable coin here....
