      Thermal Deadening

Looking for suggestions for thermal deadening. My car will be without A/C for a while, so I want to try and prevent temp change as much as possible.

I've only really heard of SecondSkin's glass bead paint, but it appears they no longer sell it.

I'm putting in their heatwave pro (floor) and thermal block product (roof and doubled up with Heatwave pro on firewall). Not on the road yet, but so far happy with the quality and installation of their products.

Does heatwave help the roof any? I mean does it block out sun heat, if you know? I have some viberation dampener up there now, along with their sound deadening paint. I'm wondering if adding that on top would help.

I put the Thermal block product up there. Its still in my garage and summer really hasn't hit here yet. I can tell from the cold sitting at nite that the areas covered by Thermal block or heatwave are more temperature neutral, areas only with metal or with Damplifier on it are nice and cold. Hopefully that translates into some nice heat insulation.

      Well, I'm sold.

Is it best to have the thermal deadener under the Damplifier? Or is that just how you ended up doing it?

I did the Damplifier Pro on the sheet metal, Heatwave Pro on the Damplifier Pro. I would be worried about the weight of the Damplifier Pro eventually pulling the Heatwave apart.

Oh, ok good. I have my vibration dampener already installed. How much is required for the roof?

Darned if I recall. I did the panels between the stuctural bars. I think (but don't hold me to it) one sheet was plenty. I also taped all the edges, which I think helps.

Taped my edges as well. Put the sound deadener on first as well then the heat insulation 2nd.

Nice thing about the thermal block is it has adhesive on one side and its lighter than heatwave pro and is supposed to be better at stopping heat (they say its their best heat insulation product), but the drawback is it is very expensive, compared to heatwave pro. I liked the lightweight, it being thinner and having its own adhesive so that's why I put it on the roof, hoping it would be less likely to fall off due to heat-cycling with the lower weight. The heatwave pro seems to like to separate from its backing at times so I was worried about it carrying its own weight on the roof.

I think I'll go with Thermal Block, it seems like it would better insulate and stick better. It's a LOT more expensive, though.

I found the Heatwave Pro to be a pretty light - much lighter than the Damplifier Pro and it was hard on the scissors when I cut it because the fiber content was so tightly woven.

Stilo - I used the Damplifier mostly because of other stuff I was ordering from Second Skin. Dynamat's fine.

I just looked at the pricing and both give 36sqft for there bulk package but Damplifier Pro is about $40 cheaper. How many sqft do u think it would take to do a hole car including firewall and trunck?

If your question is addressed to me, I don't know. A search here or elsewhere or a call to a distributor might get an answer.

@stilo, I had 80 sqft of the cheap stuff I bought, it was enough for the outer door skins, roof and choice spots on the floor. If you doing the entire car (firewall included), I'd say 160-220 sq ft.

I got one shop pack and I was able to do the entire floor, firewall, rear deck and passenger quarters. I think I have enough left to do the doors. This is all with 100% coverage. A shop pack and a trunk pack would probably get it done. So I think right around 100sq feet. I'll probably need to order a trunk pack to finish my trunk up.
