PCV, oil catch can????

454 chevy, 600hp

I currently run a pcv valve on 1 valve cover which is plumbed to the back of the carb. On the other valve cover I have a breather. I do not have baffles in the valve cover since I need to use a stud gurdle. During normal driving the system seems to work fine. When I beat on the engine, I suck a little oil into the intake as well as blow a little oil out the breather. I have two questions:

1. I know an oil catch can will solve the oil being sucked into the intake. Are all catch cans created equal????

2. What do I do on the other side with the breather? Blowing oil into the engine compartment eventually makes a mess!!

Yes, a catch can will keep the oil from the intake. Chat Mike Norris up... he sells a very nice setup.

On the other side, have you tried to use your main air filter as the breather? In other words, instead of a small breather located where it will drip oil on the engine, plumb a 3/8" line from your air filter. That will give your crankcase clean filtered air as the PCV setup pulls dirty air from engine and burns it. You might find some oil moisture inside your air filter, but at least it won't leak oil on the engine. And you may find that plumbing it this way keeps the oil in the engine. If you do end up with oil inside your air filter, you can put a one-way check valve on the filtered air setup.

I came across these as well. The only thing is the drain does not have a valve, I believe it is meant to drain back into the crankcase. Nice feature but cannot figure out how to currently do that.

928 Specialists sells them. But they order them in batches from Germany. I've been on back order since August and they haven't answered their phone or returned my call since February, So I wouldn't hold my breath.

I got it from a Porsche parts place a long time ago. Don't remember the name, but it sure looks like it's harder to get one now. There are some available from Down Under on Ebay.

There is a check valve available that goes in-line with the drain line. Engine vacuum closes the valve, that way when the engine is off filtered oil drains back to the pan. I've been using a vacuum plug on the outlet to monitor how much oil is caught.

Shouldnt the breather side go to the catch can as well? I have seen it setup like that, where the can itself has an internal filter and an eternal breather, so you completely eliminate any oil back into your air filter/carb/intake.
