What brand of disc brakes do you recommend?

I am planning on upgrading my brakes on my 66 chevy II and was just wondering on what kind of disc brakes kits do you recomend.

I've narrowed it down to ones with round rotors.

Before you get too many useful answers, the most important questions are how do you plan to *realistically* use the car and do you have a budget (oh yeah and do you have rims yet)? as those will narrow down and make the choice more apparent.

Yup, I think budget is the biggy. I shopped high and low for brakes because I am on a slim budget and decided on wilwood. They have a large assortment of parts and pieces to assemble a nice disc brake. And I used the MC I had in place, so it was just the front brakes, the rears were already descent disc brakes. JR

I am installing KORE 3 brakes as we speak. I have shopped pretty long and hard to figure out what I wanted to go with.

Budget is important, but wheel size is critical. If you are staying with 15's or smaller then you really dont have too many ways to go, but if using larger wheels, the choices are almost endless.

For me, factory components were improtant. I want to be able to go to the parts store and get a set of pads, a caliper, or a rotor if I am out on the highway somewhere and have a failure.

For the money, KORE 3 brakes are the best choice. If you want Baer or Wilwood that are the same size, rotor thickness, and quality as KORE 3, you will spend hundreds more to get it. But if you need something bigger than the Z06 stuff he sells, then you may have to go with Baer or Wilwood or something custom.

As far as customer service goes, there is absolutely no one close to Tobin at KORE 3.

Guess you have to decide what you want overall then. Nicer brakes will most likely not fit with your 15" wheels.

Thats a REALLY good package, top quality components. That caliper is lightyears beyond any factory setup. If youve got the dough, that would be a great way to go.

I second KORE3.... Tobin is great. I bought my lines, brackets from him and I got everything else used off a corvette forum. That was actually Tobin's suggestion for those on a budget that most would think would completely price you out of disc brakes. I actually did hydroboost, willwood master, Kore3 brackets and lines, and used c5 components for about a grand.

Exactly what I did for the exception for hydroboost and master. He even told me a fair price on a set of used c5 calipers and if I had access to them to get them and I could just order the rest through him if I wanted, didn't try. to sell me anything extra or something out of my budget, great help before and after the purchase of my kit. Wish I could afford the C6Z setup though.
