      Shifter for GTO T-56

Does anyone know where I can get a short throw shifter that will go into an 06 GTO trans? The stock shifter for the GTO hangs off the back and I need one to go in the center. Its for a 69 Camaro

      Thanks,

back when I had my LS1 Camaro with T-56, the hot setup was a Hurst shifter with a "Lou's Short Stick" on it. Very precise, short throws.

Best shifter for the GTO is the Billet shifter or the GMM. Shifters for the new Goats are hard to come by that are any good. I've used just about all of them and ended up with the Billet. I do have the Hurst shift and white ball for the classic look though. Best bet is to order them straight out of AU.

This is the one I'm going with:
      http://www.mgwltd.com/camaro_short_throw_shifter.shtml

It'll bolt right onto that t56 with the GTO adapter removed. I felt one in a Mustang and
it was awesome, very solid and smooth.

Are you saying that if I change the cup in the GTO trans that a Ls1 Camaro shifter will bolt right in? Is that an easy task to do? That looks like a really good deal if it will work.

I've driven with a few different shifters in the GTO and the GMM is the best in my opinion

To put an F-body shifter in a GTO transmission my understanding is that you need to change the shifter cup to Tremec P/N 1386-098-016. It is just held to the shifter rod with a roll pin. I got a deal on a brand new GTO T56 and plan on putting a Hurst F-body shifter in it. I bought the shifter cup from gearbox.com and just got it today so I haven't tried it yet.

I've got an 05 GTO T56 for my Nova - what exactly is the shifter cup - have a picture of it or a link? I couldn't find a pic after searching on that p/n.

What about the Red Roberts shifter - I believe McLeod is carrying them now (weren't they called the Slick Stix?)

Bob, Pull the shift rod cover, just four screws and you will see the cup. Held on the shaft by a rollpin. Easy as pie.

Any updates? Was it pretty easy? Im looking at a GTO trans now. Was the GTO shifter just too far back? I don't have a shifter hole at all, but it may be worth changing over to the f body type for the available shifters.

I did it with the help from the people in this thread, many thanks. I used the part number DVS51 said for the new cup and ordered a pro 5.0 shifter for a 98-00 camaro and it went right in. I haven't got my car running yet, but it seems to row through the gears. The install was very easy i just tapped out the existing pin and reused it.
