Project: NYC Soul - Marc's 68 Camaro Build

Here are some pics of my 68 Camaro shell. This is going to be a multi-year project that will include DSE mini-tubs, full frame suspension, LSX engine and other goodies. My goal is to do all of the mechanical work myself with help from my friends.

The first phase is to get the shell rebuilt and mini-tubbed. Eric Nielsen and his team over at Showroom Classics in Broadview Heights, OH will handle the media blasting, mini-tubbing and shell rebuild. As of right now we have an aggressive 8 week schedule for this first phase. The car is scheduled to be up on a rotisserie around 1/30.

This is the first project I have done from the shell up so I am open to any feedback and questions PTers have.

Here are the specs for the shell:

1968 Camaro Coupe with Clean Subframe

- Originally British Racing Green
- Had a V8 engine and TH350 auto trans

Body
- Has an extremely solid core. This car has minimal pan work required and is 90% original Chevrolet Sseel.
- The inner rockers and underneath of the floor look great
- There is some body work in the wheel lips and lower quarters
- Quarter skins will be redone
- Rear frame rails are very clean
- Suspension points and trunk drop offs look great
- The floor is very solid aside from where the rear passenger feet go
- The roof has some light dents but no rust holes and the window channels look very nice
- Rear package tray in original uncut condition
- Trunk drip rails in excellent condition

Sub Frame
- Clean
- Manual steering
- The mounting areas look good

Thank you gentlemen. Dom, I have never been to Mastic Beach. Looks like a sweet place. I lived in Holbrook as a kid.

My car is at the blaster now. More pics of the results this weekend.

Things have been hectic in the past month. My car came back from the blaster with a few more "problem areas" that we had to deal with. I will upload videos and pics later on. Right now the floor pans are being redone and the car is getting prepped for mini tubs. Good thing too given the rust in that area.

Here are some pics of the latest progress. Mini tubs looking good. I think this car is going to be silver and I will probably throw in my LT1/T56 to start or i'll get a LS/T56. Trying to make final decisions about the suspension. Slow but steady.

I'm thinking of doing Full Quarters on my 69 instead of skins. How are yours coming? It seems like a lot of work but worth it in the long run.

Full quarters are the way to go unless you only have a little rust around the wheel lip and lower. There are high quality aftermarket stampings available that fit with minimal rework. Here is the link to the NYC build. There is also an 1969 Firebird Album in there if your interested in the 1969 quarter panel installation.
