      dateline report: exploding chevy trucks

Hey guys, I'm trying to track down a video of the now infamous report that Dateline did in the 90's about the exploding sidesaddle tanks in Chevy trucks. I've tried seaching the web, but was unlucky in my results. I can find plenty of text stating the repercussions of the falsified report, but I would really like to watch

      A: The original airing (Nov. 17, 1992)
      B: GM's rebuttle
      C: Datelines public appology

Anyone have any clue where this can be tracked down?

      Thanks

There is an editorial in Popular Hot Rodding about it back then too. The Editor at the time found the truck that Dateline used to fake the footage.

Awesome find! It seemed a bit edited--from what I remember it was a bit longer and they also had evidence that the tank was not ruptured by the accident, but exploded outward (almost as if there was an explosion inside the tank).

Anyone else know of other footage, please post away!

I sat on a jury for several weeks involving one of those gas tank fires. There were lawsuits all over the country and the attorneys on both sides talking to each other on first name basis'. They settled at 1 mil during deliberations. They just traveled around the country doing truck fire lawsuits. Attorneys made plenty of money. I would have dismissed the suit.

GM should have sued Dateline NBC.

Here is a summary of what happened: Go to 1:08 in this movie

Awesome--Thanks for all of the finds!

Tony- sad how true the whole story is on the video you posted. I have absolutely no trust in the media anymore. Doesn't matter if it is Fox, CNN, or a local investigative reporter. They bring some good points to light, but until I look into it myself I take it all with a grain of salt.

If I remember correctly, didn't Dateline plant a small model rocket engine near the tank and set it to go off during impact? Something crazy like that. Yes...surprised GM didn't sue them. There is also footage on Youtube of how CNN faked some of their coverage from Iraq during the first stages of the war. I don't trust any of the major news networks because they are all owned by major corporations with special interests.

Wow, I cannot believe that GM did not crucify them for the downright fabrication of lies to intentionally ruin a company's reputation for the sake of a story.
