      Got a crazy idea

      Hey guys,

Got a crazy idea in my head. I'm thinking about picking up a v6 mustang (like a 2005) and dropping a 302 in it (carb'd) or a stroker along those lines. Idk how much work goes along with it with getting the mounts to line up or any of the electrical to function without any glitches. I have heard of people wanting to do this but I have never seen it nor have I ever seen any k-members that would line up or anything that would have to do with this swap.

      thanks for the input guys

      Jake

Not sure where you're located, Jake, but in a lot of emissions-strict locales the authorities would have issue with older engine in newer car.

      Try a 99-up GM 6.0 with a cam instead. It would be a waste with a 302.

There's nothing crazy about turning a v6 mustang into a v8 302 with that being said save your money and time and buy one already made!

      Truth defies reason

You'd probably be better off putting a supercharger on the stock V6 in terms of cost/hassle to performance return. The Vortech HO 4.0 V6 kit is rated to 330hp/337tq. Respectable if not overly impressive.

I shouldn't have any problem with emissions because I haven't been tested for my other car that i drive (1981 malibu with a sbc 406). the reason i want to do it is just to be different than the rest of all the other mustangs out there. seems like a lot of mustangs at shows and stuff are gt's and look like they just rolled of the showroom floor and they take it to a show just because they have a mustang. I just want something that is out of the ordinary and not something that you see every day. Plus the sound of a v8 doesn't even compare to the sound of a v6. there's nothing like the roar of 8 cylinders going down the road. Just thought the idea might be cool.

Maybe not a 302, maybe a windsor or some sort of 351.

      thanks for the responses guys

Ah... "just to be different" isn't one of my primary motivations, but if you think it's cool, then do it! Heck, that's why I own a Merkur XR4TI... 'cause I think it's cool.

I was speaking more about the carburated part.....find a V8 FI engine and trans from the same-ish year. Easy swap. stroker is good.

      no smog testing...what state? Conneticut?

Wisconsin...I registered my malibu a couple years ago and they said nothing about smog testing at all. Or nothing about wanting to test it some other time.

I think it would be cool to do a 302 but stroked to like 347 and put an EFI kit on it and run it. Just think it would be cool and not something you see everyday.

The reason they probably weren't worried about your Malibu was because of it's age. You start messing with a newer car and that's a different story.

Like others have asked, why not just start off with a V-8 Mustang in the beginning? There are lots of htem out there for cheap and you won't have to go through upgrading everything on the car that was only built to handle the original V-6. Just the money it would take would stop me from attempting it. I could see if you were thinking about a car that never came with an eight to start with, but a Mustang?

Good luck with whatever you choose

Hey Now, watch the Drag Racer coments. I may have a supercharged 347 up for sale soon. Just depends on what the owner wants to do with it.
