      Side exit

I was wondering if anyone on here has gone the route of exiting the exhaust before the rear wheels with a nascar style tip has any pics they can share of there rides? I'm looking for ideas on my 72 chevelle

Don't do it! Short pipes and exiting right by your ears will old in a hurry! It is louder than you will think it should be! You need to be in a car that has side exit exhaust to see what I mean!

Not if you do it right and spend the money on quality mufflers/resonators. we are working on a srt/10 viper at our shop and it has stock factory exhaust, which exits in front of the rear tire. It is pretty quiet. Im assuming the chevelle in question wont be daily driven so a little bit of exhaust drone in the ear should be acceptable for the badass look.

I had under chassis pipes with side-exit in front of rear tires. Cheap, loud (ear plugs for long cruises), sounded nasty ... but exhaust would come into the cabin with windows down. Now has X-pipe and tail pipes - quieter and no exhaust fumes.

I have side exits on my Chevelle (and it wasn't cheap!). I used these Spin Tech mufflers...

The mufflers sit a little above the frame rail so I had to fabricate tips out of oval tubing to dip down a bit to clear the frame.

You can just barely see the tip in front of the rear tire in this picture...

It's not quiet by any means but for running around/short trips, it's not too bad. When I drove it to Michigan last June, I wore ear plugs.

All depends what you're into. I've got side exhaust on my 65 mustang, 18" 70s vintage cherry bombs and all. Wouldn't trade it for the world, they're the number one reason my windows are all rolled down most of the time.

I have a custom stainless exhaust - turbo and cat. But no muffler. Nice sound for a 6 cyl.

I'm running spintechs out the side also but mine are the little prostreet mufflers in 3". Its seems quieter to me than dumps under the car and less droning but does get very loud when I'm on it.

The hotchkis guys did an awesome setup on the E-max. I think it is exactly what you are looking for.

I see a lot of pictures of side exhaust but none of them are what I would call NASCAR style. By NASCAR style I am referring to a round pipe that is flattened and fanned out to the point where it is only about 3/4" thick and maybe 10" wide for very low ground clearance applications. Anyone know of a source for this type of end diffuser?

www.stainless-specialties.com has lots of different tips. They even have one they describe as a "wide oval - nascar cut" tip. most of their tips are in the $150.00+ per pair price range

another thing, you might have to have them cut the pipes to get reasonable shipping
