Ya, the really crappy thing is that I'm going to end up rebuilding the control arms with plans to build a new x-member too to replace the POS they sold me. I'll end up spending $2k for a design....

Yup, thats why on our Stude we are just starting from scratch in the beginning. Sorry to hear that it has given you such troubles.

yeah cost def. makes a difference. i went with the unisteer rack kit which i got on sale for about $1400 then turned around and bought the gateway strut/brake kit which was about $4000 so $5400 vs $3000 price makes a big difference.

This is one of the reasons, I'm going install a Borgeson box to improve steering, rather than a conversion.
check out unisteer they actually machine the inner rack stops so that your car maintains stock steering radius. so far they are the only company ive seen say that they maintain stock steering radius AND actually come through. also im sure wider front tires with certain backspacing kill some of the turning radius as well.

I guess on a positive note, I've learned a lot more about suspension geometry and will be going the same route as you.

Does anyone have a link to C4 suspension geometry details?

Shipping, duty and exchange adds about 20% to that and you still need to add brakes/rotors which would get me to the $7300 CND mark. I'm about $2700-2800 into my front end as of today. The head aches dont seem too bad when I look at it that way..

Well, finally received my new Bilstein struts. Wow, they sure are nice pieces of kit. VERY well built and super light compared to my KYB's. Probably 5x as stiff too.

But what a pain in the a55 to install with the Fat Crap kit but I did manage to get it done this weekend. The car rides and handles so dramtically better that I'm completely shocked (no pun intended) and impressed.

      Comparison:

      New spring buckets:

They're actually so good that I'm considering replacing my QA1 rears. That brings up my question for you guys.

My coil overs in the rear of my 2700-2800 lb Mustang are very harsh. I'm thinking I have too much spring at 200 lbs/inch. I have to dial the adjuster to 2 clicks to keep compression from being too harsh but in turn that makes rebound too fast. I'm thinking that because I have so much spring and small amount of travel as a result that its causing this.

      Thoughts?

Can you go with 150 lb springs?

      My questions exactly.

I know for sure that my springs are too heavy, I have very little sag with the coil spring adjusted to the lightest setting. Essentially I have the spring at zero compression when the shock is fully extended. I'm guessing I have about a 1/2" of sag when its on the ground. I should have about 2" based on my suspension design.

I'm going to measure it up tonight and do the calculations to get to that amount of sag but I was hoping to get some other's experiences or feedback.

      Cheers,

      Wes

Well, I got back from vacation and got right back to work on the mustang. Here are a few pics of the LCA's that I modded to accept the spherical rod ends.

Man I spent a lot of time standing at the lathe spinning out these adapters:

And here's the little JIG I built. Turns out that the LCA's are built so inaccurately that it wasn't really required...

You can see here that they slide into the tubes about 3/4" which was about as long as they can due to the bend. They're a very tight fit.

      Ready for welding:

      Welded:

      Blasted:

      Painted and assembled:

      Installed:

      Back on the ground:

      Sasha:

      Ringo:

So, now that I've widened the front suspension by about 2" overall, I need to widen my steering by the same amount. So, I ordered up a QA1 bumpsteer kit so I can try to get rid of the terrible bumpsteer. If the adjusting sleeves aren't long enough then I'll just spin some new ones out on the lathe.

Thanks guys. After looking at the car a bit, I got under the rear with the spanner and dropped it another inch.... There was too much rake. The front can come down another 1/2" or so too and likely will.

I have missed your regular reports on the 67 built Wes. Glad to see you are still going strong on the Mustang. Looks like the inside of the front fenders could use a fresh coat of paint. Great work on the lowers. I am picking up the front suspension for my 67 Mustang today. Its the Ron Morris Coil Over setup. In fact I am going to Rons shop to get it.
I will start my build thread soon.

      Take care,
      Morgan

I think the ride height in the pic above is perfect.

Ya, I've been too busy driving it. Power Tour was awesome, cant wait for the next one! I look forward to seeing your suspension swap!

I havent pulled it out of the shop since I dropped it down and got the front end aligned but I'll get some pics soon. When the car is on flat ground (unlike the sloped alley above) it had quite a bit of rake. As it sits I still have about 5.5" of clearence.

I'm looking forward to the brake swap. I'm going with Wilwood 4 pistons all around and likely 13" rotor in the back too. Pretty funny how small the stock mustang brake rotor looks beside the 13" SVT rotor.

      Thanks for the compliments guys.
