      Project "Triple Threat Trans Am"

      Rendering inserted 12/10.

Project Triple Threat Trans Am 7/15/10

There is not much to show at this point because it has just recently been stripped. It will be getting the full pro-touring treatment though.

Since I want to be able to drag race as well as have a car that will handle, I am going with a 3-4 link from Art Morrison Engineering. Frank at Prodigy got them to engineer one for this car so it is the first 2nd gen that AME built this for. So thanks to him 2nd gen owners will have a new option since the engineering has now been done. The only drawback is the car will have to be back halved. The engineering drawings are now in Franks's hands and once he approves the parts will get built. He has partnered up with Chad, his good friend at Fletcher's Customs to help me move it along as quickly as possible so the car will actually be a joint venture.

I had this put the car together with a new 400 to get it to the point where I could sell it since I have a few other 2nd gens that are nicer. One being a pro-mod the other's restorations. After doing that, I changed my mind and started stripping it. Drove it less than 20 miles as it was.

Here is what it started out as..

      After tearing it down again...

and the last I saw of it on 5/4 ...

The motor is here and ready to rock other than new polished aluminum valve covers that will hook up to the vacumm pump.

The motor is a 720hp 535 Pontiac built using the IA2 block. It has some custom work on the recently released Northwind manifold done to get it to fit a shaker hood. I had the heads, intake and timing cover polished and Zoop sealed or powder coated in clear.

I have now just about decided that I will procharge it but will let it go as is for the moment.

Love that you painted the block! That Northwind will feed it with no problems! Even if you go with a blower! Looking forward to updates my friend!!

My attempt at the ultimate power to weight ratio... The bicycle chain kept coming off though and steering by foot dragging was tough on the shoes...

I want to set the new standard for 2nd gen TAs. All that AME high tech stuff should make that automatic shouldn't it?

Yes it is. I have a "few" 2nd Gen Trans Ams at the moment. The blue one is my current favorite. 1979 TA with a 70 HO455 with eheads and a solid roller, TH450, slide-a-links 3.90 Richmond. Pretty much a restomod I worked on over the last 2 years. It was a piece of junk when I got it. Pretty nice now though not a corner-carver like the new aftermarket stuff. It still handles the turns very well in almost stock form.

Just took it in for paint though. The paint was okay but if you looked closely you could see sanding scratches in some places and a couple of other minor flaws that drove me crazy.

The photo below is a link to a slideshow of some of the work I did on it. I could do a thread on it but it isn't a true Pro-touring car.
