I was thinking about, until they said you couldn't AutoX unless you were a Street Car of the Year contestant. Kind of soured it for me. Ron

Yeah, I know. I think it's because the number of participants is so large compared to even their other events that they needed to make sure they could constrain it. That's the only reason I could come up with.

That would be bizarre to go through all of the effort to set up an autocross just so a handful of cars can run. But alas, it says it right on the site. That is lame. I can see blocking off a timeframe for the SMOY contenders, but to set it up just for them, that's LAME!

The reason they don't autox all weekend is space. They totally pack out that fairgrounds with like 8000 cars and to loose half of their big parking lot would make it even harder to find a spot to park. Friday is the only day. if you want to autox, sign up for Street Machine, who cares there are a ton of cars that have no chance.

I didn't even see a way to sign up for Street Machine. It looked more to me like you had to be "selected". There isn't any means that I could see to "apply".

Ill Be there. Im hoping to score a hotel room this weekend. I dont agree with the autox..last yr there were a few cars that pretty much just idled around the coarse. They say the auto x is to prove some kind of streetablity or something like that.

No real "selection" so to speak. You ask at the gate where the parking for SMOY is, pull up to that section, and they let you in............unless it is obvious you are lost.

It is neat to have your car in there even if your seriously out gunned whcih was the case when we went with EmptyNest. Still cool to be "in the scene". I am a terrible car show guy anyway.

At Columbus every parking space is worth $50 or so.. and the autocross takes up 200 spaces. (do the math)

That's why they only do it for a bit on Friday and park cars on there Saturday/Sunday

And no.. LAME would be not making the SMOTY cars at least do a few autocross laps.

Bill, I see you spotted Deb! She needed her own username now that she took over the wagon. How about finding us a parking lot in Columbus to terrorize!
