got the front suspension torn apart today, blasted the crossmember and painted..

drilled out the old ball joints, did a quit hit with a wire brush befor blasting.

clean one next to dirty one.

everything else is torn down and in the blasting box, The Corvair Underground suspension bushings should be here soon, havnt ordered the ball joints or tie rod ends, more updates this weekend.1965 Corvair 500; delron suspension, disk brake conversion, 17x8 on all four corners flat6 supercharged

Out of ignorance/ curiosity, does the Corvair Power Glide respond to the same build tricks as other PG's ???

Are you planning to keep the glide or do a 4-speed instead? My next corvair will definitely be a late model to complement my van.

Hey thanks guys, as far as the powerglide there isnt alot out there that i know of, B&M makes a shift kit but thats about it...
i seriously considered a 4speed and its not out of the question, there is a corvair club gathering coming up soon and im hoping someone will let me take a peek under their dash at the pedal assembly to see what kind of brakets ill need to fab up, mine is originally a automatic...
i worked at Thunder Ranch in el cajon, california for a few years building 356, 550, 718rsk, and 904 replicas, well the wife fell in love with the 356 speedsters so i guess thats the next project but we'll see...1965 Corvair 500; delron suspension, disk brake conversion, 17x8 on all four corners flat6 supercharged

If you plan on doing mainly street/ auto-x, there's guys on Fastvairs (I think thats where I saw it) who say the PG is just as quick in alot of situations...

if it turns out its too much work to mount a 4 speed plus pedals, i have no reservations on using the powerglide, ive seen other builds like mine plus a few videos of race cars running the pg, they seem to do just fine.

My buddy has a Thunder Ranch 718RSK w/ Subi 6 and Mendeola paddle shift transaxle... Now there's an engine that'd keep the 6 sound and add easy NA power but alotta work fitting it in the Corvair....

Simply awesome. I really want to build another corvair. I'll make sure I find a car out of Ariz or So Cal though. All the midwest ones are rust buckets.

The 718 rsk with the subi motor was built just after i quit thunder ranch... was an awesome concept tho. as far as finding a AZ car there is a fellow out here named john seaman, he is the president of the Cactus Corvair Club and hes got a few late models for sale im pretty sure hes got a couple running vairs for less than a grand.

Well its been ALONG time since ive update on the Corvair... not much has changed as far as the body work but i have decided to go in a new direction and make it a full blown corvette killer... im all about corvettes i just want to be walking sideways on the other side of the intersection befor the corvette realizes the light is green haha. i dubbed it the "Red Light Bandit"... i recently purchased the last few peices for the braking system. 4 wheel disk brakes (94 camaro donor) dual resivior MC, cnc inline staging brake, and wilwood remote bias adjustor. planning on putting it together in the next few weeks. Also picked up an eaton m90 supercharger and have been working on a reverse gear belt drive system to alow the clockwise rotation of the m90 to work with the counter clock wise roation of the flat6 engine... ill post some pics when i get started on the brakes and suspension.
