gas cap question.

wasnt sure if this is the right spot for it or not but here it goes

I have a 1970 nova that i cant find a gas cap that doesnt leak. does anyone know of a gas cap that doesnt leak? the neck does not have any rust issues around the lip were the seal goes.

Do you have a stock gas tank and cap arrangement ??
Is the cap vented ???
The gas could be sloshing out of the vent hole in the cap..
I have that problem on my '69 Camaro.
I put a non-vented gas cap on for track events so it doesn't slosh out and then keep a vented cap on for normal use.
If you leave the non-vented cap on , it will build pressure..
You may try a non-vented cap and add ( carefully ) a vent to the top of tank to let pressure off.
Don't drill or cut a a hole in the tank with gas or gas fumes in it.
You'll blow yourself up..
Be careful..
Remove the tank , clean it out completelky and add the vent fitting.
Then plumb a section of hose , with a loop in it , with a filter on the end..

Check the OE specs required for your specific car if you are still using the stock gas tank system as some gas tanks from late 60's early 70's cars required "none vented" gas caps. The tanks used an alternate venting method.

I am not familiar with Nova's but you might call Joe in Mt Washinton Ky at Chevy II Only for the correct answer.

Try adding a second rubber ring to your cap. It'll make the cap fit very snug. I tried all sorts of different caps for my OER Stainless stock replacement tank and doubling the rubber ring was the only solution I found. No leaks now. It's a vented cap.

every nova I've ever seen leaked gas. my '70 did it, and we had tried numerous non vented and vented caps, vent hoses, etc nothing ever worked.
it's just a crappy arrangement; the fill tube doesn't rise high enough above the tank.
IDK about camaro guys, but this was my experience w/ Novas.
