Yes there is a weight issue here. You have a vehicle that can handle more weight than 5 lug wheels can. Why you would want to change that is beyond me?
You obviously have a heavy duty 3/4 ton setup and are wanting to put some wheels on it that are 5 lug, Right?

Not really the right thing to do. It is better to just get the right wheels that fit. You could also trade it for a different Tahoe with 5 lugs if that is what you want is to use 5 lug wheels you like.

You are opening a mess that will take you down a road that you don't want to ever imagine.

      Goodluck
You need to give more info about what the plan is all about or we will all be wondering what is going through your head?

I don't see an issue; he's not using his 'hoe for heavy loads.

sorry about the vague-ness. i have a new, new to me, 2001 tahoe and lets face it they all look the same. same rims, same drop, same! same! same!

i am not going to be using my truck to go off roading just hauling the family up and down the freeway. i would love to throw some nice slo-touring rims on it like i see in the land yhact treads but none of them are 6 lug. i know that land rover runs a 5 lug and didnt think the weight difference was too much.

i knew there was a weight issue and i was gonna leave well enough alone. but at a minimum i thought i should ask someone.

i know they have adaptors but i dont think i wanna trust that. i also read an article in sport truck magazine where they pressed the bolts out of the hub, tig welded the bolt holes, and had a machine shop drill new holes to the desired spacing. i was quickly considering it but still hesitant.

Just some food for thought. Many of the aftermarket wheel companies have 6 lug applications to fit your truck, Rushforth line can do any of there wheels in 6 lug. Budnik also has some to choose from along with Bonspeed. As a matter of fact Bonspeed just introduced a larger wheel line to accommodate just such an application.
We carry all the wheel lines mentioned above. We would be happy to give you a quote on any of them

FWIW, it's not just the number of lugs that is important, it is also the size of them.
I don't think a Rover is even close to the weight, but even so, have you looked at the size of the lug nuts on them?

you ever go back and read an old post and think man i sound retarded. i really should have done more research before asking questions.lol.
i really should have bought something different in the first place. too many tahoes! i would put some billet rims on but i am not trying to have some rapper/ wanna be thug mobile. i am a simple man that rides up and down the freeway with two kids listening to ryan friggin secrest countdowns cause it keeps everyone happy when what i love to hear is my chevy vortec at wot. it doesnt happen enough in my opinion but hey safety first.
i am gonna save my cash and put it into something cool. so if yall got a line on a 85regal or a 55bel-air let a brotha know

You do realize that 6 lug is half ton, 8 lug is 3/4.

It is standard for GM to use 6 lug on anything 4 wheel drive or heavy half ton. Is this a 4 wheel drive vehicle or a 2 wheel drive?

I'd leave it alone and find some better wheels with the money instead of spending it on lug conversion. This is likely a lot more work than it seems.

my tahoe is 2wd with a tow package. but like i said before i aint going to mess with it. maybe an intake and cat-back pipe and call it done. i cant justify throwing lumps of money at it when what i should be doing is starting a pt project.
