      Looking for a English bulldog

Well since I get a lot of help and helpful information from you guy I thought I would post on here.

I am looking for a English Bulldog as a family pet. My kids have been asking for one for well over a year and I will be using my project fund money to buy them the dog. I wanted to buy it for xmas but money was tight. So now I am looking for it. Does anyone one were have one local or can point me in the right direction. I am not looking for a show dog or high$$$. The only place I looking in was the recycler.com don't really know were else to look. Any help will be appreciated

oh yey my budget is about 1300 right now.

I am in SoCal-LA area (Pico Rivera of the 605/5)

good luck trying to get one for 1300. The average cost is 2k for just an average dog. I paid $2200 for mine. BEfore you go and spend that kind of cash I would recommend that you look into the breed ALOT. I learned the hard way and paid for it big time.

The dogs need constant care, and the vet bills are going to be outrageous. Some tips that I recommend are you get them on a special diet and to get pet insurance.

Some of the surgery's that my dog went through were:
      1) Eye- cut back some of his eyelids because they were casing scratches on his cornea. $600
      2. Bladder infection: Had Bladder stones removed $1200
      3. Constant medication (steroids) for his irritable skin
      4. Cyclosporin- Drops for his right eye for life- no longer produces tears.

Those are to just name a few! Sorry to discourage you, but here are a few pics:

Nice looking dog. I had a bulldog before so I am aware of its issues. I know the 1300 is low for this type of dog. I would pay up to 2500 for the right dog.
I found one 5 miles from my house but I was about 1/2 hour to late someone left a deposit.Hopefully they cant pay the rest. He was asking 1300.

He will have another litter from a show dog but not looking to pay what he is asking.

My dads next door neighbor sells them. He actually moved here from Cali about a year ago. If you want me to find more out I will, but I think he gets around $2000 or so for them.
My buddy just bought a fixed female French bully from a shelter that takes "used up" breeders for only $300. Might check into that.

My wife has been breeding bullies for 15 years. Be very careful when looking, the quality of the line really does determine the price in most cases. Pet insurance is an important thing to consider. These dogs can have serious breathing issues in addition to eyes and skin problems. She sells our pups for $2500 - $3000 (Canadian). You may want to consider an older one. We retire our females after a max of 3 litters at the age of 4 1/2 to 5 years and often give them to deserving families that love the breed but cant afford a pup. Anyway take your time and make sure to check references from people who have bought from the breeder and the vet who delivered pups. Oh yeah also stay away from anyone who offers a pup from Hungary or similar country their health and quality are awlful

i just talked to my landlord--she breeds french bulldogs and her friends breed others, inc english bulldogs. she said that due to the difficulties in birthing and whelping they are expensive (they must be born by c-section and the mothers tend to roll over on the puppies--whoops!!!), no matter who you go to. she said they're generally $2-2500.
BUT there is this site http://www.rescuebulldogs.org/

The breeder we got ours from is no longer in the business. However, when we were stationed in San Diego, we were looking into getting a puppy from Star T bulldogs. They are in SoCal, but I can't remember exactly where. They were very courteous and helpful when we were looking. I really wanted one of their pups, but they weren't going to have any, from the stud (Buddy) we wanted, for quite awhile. Their puppies are quite a bit more than $1300, but they also have older dogs available at times.

Davis and Kristen are close friends of ours and do a good job. They can help arrange transportation.

      Good luck with the search.

Thanks guys. I found Several breeders in my area or at least with in a hour drive. I found a breeder of mini english bulldogs 10 min away from my house. I went and seen several over the past couple of days and will be seeing a visiting a couple of breeders in the OC this weekend. I would much rather pay more upfront and know the puppy will be healthy with a good family tree vs some low $$$ and health issues. Again since it will be a family pet and want him to grow up with my kids.

Thanks and I will keep everyone posted.

If you are concerned about cost on a purebred dog then you probably should not consider them. Even many of the "easy" ones are going to have quite a few hereditary problems which can cost many times what you originally paid to care for them.

Hell I pretty much inherited a chocolate lab because his original owners ditched him. Learned to poop and piss where he slept because he was raised in a cage. After working with him for months and losing many pieces of furniture he ate some tread he found. $10,000 and two surgeries to remove intestines, including a free one because they felt bad we spent so much to save him we had to put him to sleep. Point is, purebreds cost a lot and you should expect A LOT of expenses.

Thank you all but I will be picking up our new dog in a couple of weeks. Cost is a concern as I think they are over priced( and using my car fund $$)I did find a breeder who worked with me and gave me a good deal on a female. ( I wanted a male) but no big deal. She is a champion bulldog.

      again thanx all.

Good luck on your new dog and some good looking ones posted up. I wish I had the time for one. They are without a doubt overpriced here in Georgia.
