      Maxton Mile

Hey guys, I don't know how many of you follow ECTA races at Maxton, but I went down there over the weekend with my Chevelle (Mike was also there with his El Camino).

Due to the weather I was only able to make two licensing runs. The first license was for 125 and I hit it dead on with 125.8 mph. The second run was for 150 and I over shot it a little with a 161.3 mph but was still given the 150 license.

I have to make some safety changes to the car to go faster so between now and April I hope to get everything up to snuff so I can shoot for 175 mph.

      Thanks Jeff!

Mike ran a 150 and 152. He changed the rear gear prior to this meet looking for higher speeds but it just didn't happen this time.

His best to date is 158 and change.

Thanks John! Yeah, Maxton is a great place to race even if the return road and staging lanes are a little rough!

This Maxton event was not a good one. We lost a rider on Sat. Guy Lombardi made a 191 pass on his bike and ran off course at speed. He was DOA at the hospital. No one is completely sure what happened, but it was his first pass at Maxton and he went way to fast not to have ridden the course before. Obviously that ended Sat. competition.
Sunday we went from Saturdays 20 knot tailwind to a 15 knot headwind. My three runs were 150-152-153, all into the wind. Gotta have more HP.
      RIP Guy.

      Hey Herb

Looks like you and Mike a great time. Is Hot Rod coming back in April? If you or Mike need anything when you come back down, I live about 30 miles from Maxton. If you need a garage for anything, mine is heated and cooled!! I plan on coming to watch!

I'm not sure but I think Hot Rod hosts their own event within the Maxton event each April. Whether they're there or not, I plan to be. Thanks for the offer and hospitality! Hope to see you there!

I had to change my driver seat. I had a fiberglass Sparco racing seat with FIA cert but that wasn't acceptable to the ECTA's tech. I've replaced it with an aluminum Kirky seat.
      I'm shooting for 175 mph.

Matt, It is indeed fun. As for my goals, I ran a 158 in April. Five more mphs will give me a class record. Sounds easy but every mph comes real hard at these speeds. I feel like I would had my record if I could have run on Sat. in Oct. There was a 20 mph tailwind on that day. I make a few changes each event. Some help some don't.
The only test is to go run it. The next Maxton event is April 10/11.
      Come on down.

The guy in this video gives a good idea what Maxton is all about. All last year he tried to break 200. He was just above 190 in April. He is scaring 200 to death but can't quite get past it. My guess is he will do it in April. I watched as a gentleman with a Ford GT spent three years and over $60,000 in upgrades to finally get his 200 last April. He was determined and had the cash to throw at the effort and succeeded. I watched a 65 HP VW break 100 in Oct. No less of a feat. And you woulda thought he had just set a world speed record. It is a fun deal with or without reaching super speeds. It's all relative.
      Mike
