      Best New Tires? Opinions....

Ordering a new set of 18s for my 68 camaro and am going with

      245/40-18 front
      275/40-18 back

I am looking for the best dry performance tires (live in so. cal and wont be driving it in the rain anyway.)

Any opinions on best bang for the buck, best overall, etc?

Also, im thinking of possibly doing a 40 in front, 35 in back... any pictures on opinions on this?

      Cheers:

Ditto on the BFG KDW 2.
They are a great performing tire.
      Priced competitively.
Most of the sizes are American made.

The BFG KDW 2 and the Nitto NT-05 are both really good tires. We are local (SoCal) and can get you whichever you decide on. You will not find better pricing. If you would like, let me know what wheels you are looking for and I will put together a package deal for you.

Thanks for the input and Justin, i will definitely give you a call within the upcoming weeks...are either hard to get a ahold of(245/275)? Also, i am assuming you are in LA?

and anyone else have any opinions on the tire profiles?
      (i.e. staggered, etc)

The 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 rear is an absolute home run. Gives you a little taller tire in the rear and keeps the tire ratios where they need to be. We can get either tire within a day or two and located in Corona right of the 15 fwy.

Im a big fan of nitto. Im running NT-05 up front, (they just came out with nt-05 Rs also) and 555r drag radials out back. This set up does well in the canyons and down the track. The drag radials dont last long but if your not driving the car everyday it should'nt really matter.

      Kumho Ecsta XS

It's actually designed as an autocross tire, but offers absolutely great dry grip. Wet grip, not so much. They have a rather aggressive treadwear rating of 180.

Is that was the "street tire" class autocross guys are using. They are really up on their tires. And the "IT" tires seems to change over time off course.

Is there another tire that is in that league up on performance vs. value? I was wondering if I could find a good 275/40/17 for around $125 or so.

My next tires will have to be 275/40/17 all the way around.

Well, it's what the Pozzis have run at the Goodguys autocross events.

This article does a good job of comparing most of the aggressive summer tires available. Unfortunately, the Nitto NT05 wasn't available when this test was done.

This Tirerack test has the Kumho getting edged out by 3 other tires worthy of consideration.

your 125 per tire requirement really limits your choices as far as the really grippy street tires. For that price, tires like the BFG G force sport are available (fairly agressive 340 treadwear.) I run them on my fox body and have been pretty happy with them.
