      Dart SHP Block & 427 Stroker??

      I just picked up a new dart shp block...small block chevy w/ 4.125 bore version. Can I put a 4.00 stroke crank and 6" rods in it? I want to build a 427 stroker with it, can it be done safely? Has anyone here done this yet? I want to start looking for my rotating assembly and want some advice please.

      The max recommended stroke is 3.750
      I'm sure that's just a recommendation tho.

      Many people do put 4" stroke cranks in those blocks. The 3.75" max recommendation is to keep those that don't know any better from hurting themselves.

      OK thanks for all the good info guys! So I guess it goes without saying that a 3.875 stroke crank won't be a problem either. Reason I ask is I posted this question on T.C. and was informed " with a 4" crank your cam is the size of a pencil and rod angle sucks" that's pretty close to the wording, so I thought maybe I should go with the 3.875 instead?

      Just to let you know I also found this >

      They also quote:

      * Eagle 4340 4.000" Forged Steel Stroker Crank
      * Eagle 4340 6.000" H-Beam Rods

      * Mahle Custom Coated 9.5-1 Forged Aluminum Pistons

      http://www.ultrastreet.net/shortblocks_us/427_short.asp.

      I haven't spoken to them yet but almost every one else suggests that a 4" stroke with standard deck height (9.025") and standard cam location means a small base circle cam.

      Both Shafiroff and World Products do not mention this on their 427 SBC advertised specs.

      Most 434's use a tall block 9.325 Dart Iron Eagle with both increased deck and raised cam location.

      This is highly confusing to non engine builder types like me.

      I too would like to know if any one has boosted a 427 SHP beyond 1000hp with success?

      Dart recommends 600hp which is less than a 427 with AFR235's could pump out!!!!!!

      My 427sb has the world block, stock cam location, standard base circle cam. My guess is that the rod selection makes a big difference.
