      DCC wiring question ?

I am connecting my positive wires today and when looking at the instructions I only see the fusible link and no fuse. Since it is supposed to be connected directly to the battery I am not going to have a fuse unless I put one in.

Do those of you who have done the install and have had no problems, did you install an inline fuse or just do the fusible link and no fuse?

I'm getting close to putting fluids in and am starting to get anxious a bit to have all of the electrical finished up soon. it seems to be one little detail after another to make it all easy to work on and look nice too.

      Thanks

I found that I needed 2 pieces to be able to go from the starter instead of the battery but still no mention of a fuse and it makes me wonder?

I was hoping I didn't have to try to contact DCC since it is so difficult to do at times.

the fusible link acts like a fuse in an overcurrent situation, so you do not need the fuse, just use the fusible link wire you will be fine.

      Ditto.

I just installed my second DC Control unit. The first has been working flawlessly for nearly 3 years now, protected by the fusible link.

I had to do some re-wiring, since I had in-line fuses that fed the previous SPAL controllers (that died). I trust Brian's knowledge, and pulled out the fused lines and replaced with his supplied fusible-link line.

Did you install the surge protection for a remote battery?
I have a small diode and am not sure if it is it since it doesn't have any ends on it to look like the surge drawing he gives.

I am not going to turn over my engine until i know what the surge protector looks like and is installed. I don't want to spike the controller and burn it up if it is possible to do. I have seen electricians burn things up for years because of stuations like this.

I want to try to start it today and this is a small detail that will stiop me.

      Thanks

      Jim,

      Sorry for the delayed repsonse.

I don't have a remote battery (hard to do in a street-driven station wagon!) on this car, but the surge protector (as seen on http://www.dccontrol.com/componentsR1.htm ) is rather large - in the order of a AA battery, just a bit shorter. It will also have the mounting "eyes" already attached and will fit nicely accross the terminals it is to be used on.

Did you pay for a surge protector? Did that diode come with your controller? The only diodes I have, have come with MSD ignitions.
