      Autocross Fun!

I was at the Goodguys meet in Pleasanton, CA and happened to see Mary Pozzi and Keith Smith finish the autocross competition first and third in their second gen Camaros. I was ready to try autocross in my 71 Z28 and Keith was good enough to spend time with me explaining how he prepared his car and offered to help me get mine in similar condition. The following month, I took my Z28 to his shop, Custom Works Products in Chico, CA (www.customworksproducts.com) and Keith did a fantastic job rebuilding my suspension with new springs, sway bars, upper control arms (all Gen II), shocks (Koni), wheels and tires (Vintage Wheel Works and Kuhmos). Given his 20 years experience with his own 71 Camaro, Keith knew exactly what to do and my experience was fantastic. He ensured everything worked correctly and we even went autocrossing with Trinity Touring the same weekend! If you want to get your 2nd gen handling like a monster, I would really recommend getting in touch with Keith at [email protected] or 530-864-5846. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail. Mike

Thanks for the opportunity to work on your car. It is amazing how the transformation went, from a completely stock 71 z28, to a great handling autocross vehicle, with a suspension kit and tires. I am very pleased with the performace of out GT kit, Mike also took to autocross very easily, and did extremely well, there is some pics and video at

Oh yeah and if you could have seen Mikes face after running his car through the paces, priceless! So any of you guys wanting to enjoy your car more than showing it off, autocross is a great way, not to mention building good driving skills.

Thanks for the welcome to the site! For a serious desk jockey like me, this was a great experience! Great to have a new hobby instead of just driving to the coffee shop! I've got the bug so it's time for some seats and a steering upgrade - trying to take it slow (good luck....). Thanks, Keith!

Thanks everyone. It's great fun to finally use the car in it's best tradition. If anyone has second gen trans-am racing pictures from the early 70's, I'd love to see them. For fun, I'd like to pick an autocross number based on one of the historic Z28's. Mike

My bad, my signature had my web address on it, which is a no no on this site, Mike71z28 you did nothing wrong, and it is totally fine for you to post a link to my website, just not me, without paying the sponsor fee, which may happen someday, just not today. Custom Works

      Correct.

Thus I didn't remove the link from your customers post.

I am totally in, my car on the other hand is totally out. Boooooo We are going autocrossing on the 30th, we have a few more tweaks on Mikes car. He is like a kid with a new bicylce christmas morning, how cool is that. I am inspired. If everyone knew how cool it was to actually compete or track their cars, rather than garage queen the stuff.... see you today Matt
