      "non-traditional" wheels?

by non-traditional i mean wheels normally regulated to import vehicles. such as...

      enkei RP-F1
      konig daylite
      kosei K1 TS

      motegi traklite
      OZ ultraleggera
      rota slipstream
      SSR type C RS
      TRMotorsport MT1

do any of our vendors have the pull with any of these companies to ask them to consider making their wheels in 5 X 120.65 bolt patterns w/ 0 or near 0 offset? for instance, the motegi traklite is an inexpensive, lightweight wheel that has decent looks.

always searching for lightweight wheel options...

      Indeed.

I have Rota Slipstream's on my WRX, and they are light, tough and real cheap.

I do know that custom offsets can be ordered, but they have to be done on multiples of 6 sets of the same sizing. If we wanted a different size for the rear it would be 12 sets.

I would love some Grid's or Slip's for my Camaro.

Or some RPF-1's for that matter.

There is a thread on here where a guy put OZ's on his '64 Tempest.

I would love to put a set of Enkeis or Rotas on my Tempest.

reallllly. the trick will be getting enough people who need the same specs. i would think the fronts would be easier, say 8" wide w/ 0 offset. it's the rears that might be tougher, since some would want 9.5", others would want 10", etc.

the backspacing for all four of b-man's OZ leggeras is 6.57". his rear wheels bolt up w/o any adapters or spacers, but his fronts needed 1.063" (27 mm) spacers.

the backspacing of his OZ wheels are closer to the BS needed for 4th gen fbody or C5 corvette, not older muscle cars. i'm looking for wheels that are close or right on the nose of 0 offset.

In the rear I bought new Moser rear axles with the 5 on 120mm BMW bolt pattern to match my wheels, which are spec'ed for rear fitment on a 2008 Z4 roadster. Worked out fine since I was upgrading the 8.5 rear to a 30-spline Eaton posi anyway and needed new 30-spline axles, the 'custom' 5 on 120mm bolt pattern didn't cost extra.

I spent a lot of time looking through the different cars on the Tire Rack that the O.Z. Ultraleggera wheels were offered for to find something close enough. I was lucky to find wheels that fit perfectly in the rear with the 6.57" backspace (40mm offset). The bolt pattern change isn't a deal breaker, but certainly more trouble and expense.

Having to use a spacer/adapter up front to effectively fine-tune the front wheel backspacing worked out pretty well, stuffing an 18X9" wheel up front isn't easy on the early A-body cars. When you're not spending the big money for 'adjustable' 3-piece wheels you have to compromise somewhere.

275/40-18s on 18X9s, the wheels weigh only 20.8# each.

245/40-18s on 18X9s. Car is not at final ride height yet.

I like this wheel style a lot, put a set of 18X8s on one of my daily drivers a few years back.....

Just to add a little fitment info I used to run 17X8s all around on the Tempest, all zero offset (4.5" backspace).

The zero wheel offset on the 8" wheel kind of limited the width of tire you could run. I had the wheels built that way to maximize the track width and fill up the wheelwells

I ran 235/45-17s all around, I wanted to be able to rotate the tires. Up front that's about all that would fit. In the rear a 245/45 would have been about as big as you could go. The wheels were simply too far outward in the wheelwells to run wider tires.

In the rear you have to take into account the narrower rear end in the early A-body cars, on the Pontiacs the rear end got wider by 1" overall (1/2" per side) in mid-1966.

My car would have been better off with 5" of backspace (13mm offset) in the rear and about 4.75" in the front (7mm offset). With a later wider rear end like I'm now using a 5.5" backspacing (25mm offset) would have been best with an 8" wide wheel and kept the tire away from the outer wheelwell lip.

I purchased some Rota p45's for my first gen blazer. 17x9 6" b.s. and 5 on 114.3 bp. Fronts worked out almost perfect, minus some wheel to tie rod clearence issues. How I got away with the ford/import bolt pattern is really a fluke. I picked up the wilwood kit for the front of a g-body, and the alluminum hubs are drilled for both 5x4.5 and 5x4.75 bolt patterns. The original plan was to run Motegi Touge's since they were offered in with bolt patterns, but when the wilwood kit showed up, and american racing delaying my shipment for over a year, I decided to spend the extra dough on the rota's. For the rear I'm using an 8.8 from a fox body, and the overall width from wheel lip to wheel lip is about 4" wider than the factory 7.5 diff with 15x7 wheels. I might have a lead on a 9" from a granada however, which will cut the overall width down to 2.5" wider. I will still have to flair the quarters, but it wouldn't be to bad.

Initialy I was worried about the rota's reputation for snapping spokes where they meet the hoop. But after talking to a few shops, they said it usualy only happens on the thin multispoke designs, and only when a guy smokes a huge pot hole or slides into a curb. When the p45's arrived that was the first thing I checked. The spokes have a nice amount of material where they meet the hoop, but still came in under my expectaions for weight at a hair over 21 lbs. Not bad for a $180 wheel.

I bought a set of Voxx Misano rims with 5x120 bolt pattern for my 68 Camaro. They are available with brushed lip and silver centers or fully chromed.

Depends on size and finish. I got a set of 4 17x9 with silver centers for around $450 through Discount Tire on ebay. Looks like they may be discontinuing them now. Here is a 18x9 in chrome for $140 and they only have 6 left. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-New...Q5fAccessories

      And heres a 20x9.5 for $175
      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-New...Q5fAccessories

Same size in silver for $130-but notice on the 20" wheels they offer +20 and +40 offset, and I think that is the case with all other sizes.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-New...Q5fAccessories

IIRC, SSR went out of business. Tirerack, et al are still selling old/oddball sizes though.

found a close match. 5 X 120 (not 5 X 120.65 but it'll do) team dynamics pro race 1.2 wheels. the only specs that would work for most of us is their 18X8's w/ 11mm offset (4.93" BS) and their 18X9's w/ 15mm offset (5.59" BS).

      http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/pr...Pro-race12.htm

      http://www.rimstock.co.uk/rimstockuk...o%20Race%201.2

      17X8 19.8 lbs
      17X9 20.0 lbs
      18X8 19.8 lbs
      18X9 22.1 lbs

you can order either direct from Don Kane at [email protected] or right through discount tires at www.tires.com. lead time is a long 8 weeks though.

I'm running my old Blitz Type 03 from a previous car on the 66 Chevelle. 18x8, 18x10. I'm using adapters/spacers to convert from the GM bolt pattern to the 5x114. With these 3 piece wheels I would need to run adapters/spacers to clear the C6Z06 brakes so it worked out pretty well.
