PHR Project Street Fighter Mustang Update/Problem

So I just dropped my Victor Jr. topped Windsor in my '66 Mustang and the hood won't even set on with the carburetor installed. This doesn't seem like a strange engine/car combo, does anyone know what scoop or preferably bolt-on hood would fit this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i have that set up on my 65 falcon. i have a tear drop hood.

on my 65 mustang i have a victor jr with 1" spacer and a predator carb (the box with variable venturi) I have no hood. Im thinking a 5" cowl or a tear drop.

      351W Fitment

I have a 408 Windsor in my '66 project. The motor was lowered 3-1/2" and I have a drop base circle track style air cleaner and it only has 1/4" room with a shelby style scoop.

Do you have the air cleaner on it yet? Haven you even tried the drop air cleaner? Or is this with JUST a carb, and no air cleaner or air cleaner stud?

      Hood room

Sell the Windsor, build a 302 stroker, go with an Eddy RPM or a Weind Stealth.
You will gain 1.3" in deck height and the intake will gain you about 1.35".
I think cowl hoods are for Chevrolets so I would not suggest that for a Ford (some do, they look good, and that's fine)

      Best of luck,
      Brent

I'll throw my support in for the shaker option. Of course, shakers have their own clearance issues, hence my car's current shakerless state. Note that in that kit everything below the wide part of the shaker needs to fit below the hood . . . that might need some creativity and fabrication thrown at it, especially if the hood isn't even clearing the carb.

That or build a screamer of a 302 that easily revs past 7k . . . yea, I know the engine article is already in print so that's not an option. Best of luck.

Liz, we are running into the same issue with our tall deck in a 66 Fastback. We opted to modify the frame, steering and oil pan. Dropped the engine down and back into the firewall. Luckily, no distributor back there to fowl it up. I just hope that fixes it. We really want to run the Shelby hood.

Can't wait to see what you end up with.

i really like the shaker idea. does it have an air cleaner inside? the carb would clear except for the vent tubes. if there was a choke horn that would have been in the way too.
