      BBC cam install

I am putting the Hyd roller cam in as well as the timing set, both from crane. I have adjusted the cam end play. The cam sprocket has the bearing on the back side against the block. The sprockets line up well, but the lifter roller is almost off the back edge of the lobe! This does not seem good. I do not see where this can be adjusted?

Just to be clear, the cam gear was in fact machined to accept the thrust bearing, not just added to a standard timing set and your endplay is at .005"-.010"? If that's the case, is the problem on every lobe or just a few? This could be a case of some core shift in the block which would require the lifter bores to be bored and sleeved or a new core used.

The cam gear was machined to be used with the bearing, that came with the gear. All the lifter bores look about the same. The distrubutor gear does look to be pretty centered in the hole when viewed from above. The lifter roller is still completely on the lobe but is just a little less than a 16th" away from the rear edge and nearly a 1/4" from the front edge.
