      PCV and Breather Routing

      hi all,
on my SBC I'd like to put both the PCV and an AN fitting for a remote breather in the intake manifold (reaching into the lifter valley ofcorse), this instead of putting them in the valve covers.
would this cause any negative effects?
      thanks!

Should be fine. I believe some Buick motors (maybe 70's V6 231) had the PCV in the back of the intake. 67 & earlier Chevy's had the breather in the back and the PCV in the filler tube (some had the PCV in the back and breather in the filler tube), so you should be fine. Just make sure to put some sort of baffle so oil won't splash up.

Remember that PCV systems also need a filtered air source. The idea is to use engine vacuum to pull contaminants out of the crankcase and burn it. Without a filtered air source the whole idea of ventilation of the crankcase breaks down.

      thanks guys,

It will be filtered but I bet I didnt explain this to well , the plan is to do as follows
      1. AN on intake manifold (going into oil valley with a baffle underneath)-AN hose to a filtered breather tank (Moroso or similar) in this way it will have filtered air.
      2. PCV into oil valley with the other end into intake plemum

      thanks again

Sorry Andre, I'm not quite following. (and sorry if this is what you're already doing)

A PCV goes something like this:

      1. From behind the air filter (or some other source) air is plumbed into the crankcase. Usually this is to a valve cover, but any spot is fine.
      2. From another spot in the crankcase (usually the other valve cover) is the PCV valve that has a hose connected to engine vacuum. The input to the crankcase and the output from the crankcase need to be separated so that air circulates throughout the engine, and not just from the input to the output.

I think its just me and my way of explaning stuff John, no worries

      1. my n.1 would equal your n.1 (or original setup), all it does is suppying filtered fresh air into the crankcase.

      2. my n.2 would equal your n.2 (or original setup), except that with my idea there might be a possibility of the PCV catching air from n.1 without circulation through the engine. This could be be solved by putting the air inlet in the front of the manifold and the PCV in the rear.
      Would this suffice?
