      Overflow tank install

A couple of years ago I picked up this cheapo overflow tank from Ebay cause my car never came with one and had the hose running down the side of the rad tank that clipped in. It looked pretty decent with its billet screw cap.

So on the weekend I decided it was time to mount this piece on the passenger side front to serve its purpose. My rad support already had a few factory openings from where I figured the tank could be mounted only thing is I'd have to drill through the rad mounts, no big deal since the brackets are aluminum. So the only extra hole 5/8" that was needed was for the hose hookup to be drilled.

Out of the way from the engine compartment, overall happy with the final outcome.

Looks good. Put a little bit of never seize on the cap threads.

Is that tank sealed with no vent or overflow?

Don, tank is sealed with no overflow......would a small vent hole on the top of the tank suffice? Cap seals and isn't vented.

I’m not an expert but I don’t think that is the type of tank you want. The puke tanks I have seen and used have two connections, an input on the bottom and a vent/overflow connection.

You could drill a vent hole in the top but it might spray coolant all over your engine bay.

I used an overflow tank out of a 75-79 Nova. Super clean install on 1st gen's. May want to look into that. While that tank looks really nice, I agree that you'll need to modify it for the expansion and contraction of the coolant if you want it to work properly.

I have the same tank on my Nova and it has a small 1/16” hole in the cap. Never pukes out and works perfect.

Tim, thanks I'll drill the small vent hole in the cap, my canister is in front of my rad support where its open below in case it spews.

Had that same tank as well. It was a very fine line between empty and overflowing at higher temperatures. Basically, it needed to have about a 1/2" at the bottom cold. Swapped to a universal Dorman part (I'd use the Nova part as above if the space was not occupied) and it was much better.
