      1st gen camaro headers

I know this has been talked about but I'm ready to switch my low hanging(old hooker) long tube headers to something with more clearance.
      Here is my car
      Stock subframe
      3rd gen box
      Ls1
      4l60e non removable bell housing
Energy suspension short & wide mounts & plates
      Hooker super comp headers 2288-1
      Holley pan 302-2
My choices I've come up with are, american racing headers, speedtech, stainless works, kooks, and holley.
I know with the holley I would have to change the mounts and crossmember. Not sure if the crossmember will work with my trans.
Any and all info would be great.

The Detroit Speed LS Headers are really cool. They are manufactured by profabrication out of NC. You can also look into Ultimate Headers with their low profile clamps. I am going with the Ultimate Headers on my Gen V LT4 swap.

I have a factory sub frame with Street and performance engine mount plates and 1-7/8' American Racing Headers they fit well. They are kind of close on the drivers side to the block with one of the tubes but nowhere near touching. Plenty of room near the factory steering box. Tight near the 4l85 trans but still has room for everything but the 02 sensor, just order them with it on the out side. Nice headers.

Holley crossmember works fine with a 4L60E.

Hey Don, I thought I'd add to your info that the Hooker 4L60E crossmember is only compatible to the later bolt-on bellhousing versions of the
4L60-4L70 transmissions; it's not compatible with the one-piece case/bellhousing version that the OP has, which locates the mount in the case and not in the extension housing like it is on the later 4L60-4L70's.

Thanks for correcting me. My answer was based on my personal experience. Sorry for the bad info.

Toddoky, what if I have the older 4l60 with the mounting pad on the extension housing? Will the crossmember work then?

If you are using the GM extension housing from the 90's Impalas that put the mount in the same approximate fore/aft location as a TH400, then it will work if you use the Hooker T56 crossmember and a spacer under the mount to place the trans output shaft at the appropriate height. If the mounting pad plane on your extension housing is milled the same distance away from the output shaft centerline as the TH400 mounting pad plane is, then you can use the Hooker 12650HKR spacer block to put you right where you need to be.

I have a stock subframe in both of my camaros, the ls7 has kooks 1-7/8 headers which are great quality, but do hang low. I ended up with flowmaster stainless/coated 1-3/4 on the ls3 in the convertible and they tuck up very nice. That has a current production 4L70e and I used a g-force rear crossmember and just had to make a small plate to offset the mount and raise the back of the trans to get the driveline angle correct and tuck the collectors up even closer to the floor. I can get pics if you’d like. Dan

edit, I don’t think flowmaster is making them anymore, I bought mine two years ago, part number 814115, I only see the A body headers now not F body... sorry.
