American Racing VN327 Rally Wheels 79 Corvette

      Hey all,

I am doing a frame off resto on a 79 Corvette and I am getting ready to buy some rims & tires for it. I want it to have a wide stance and plan to install L88 flares on it to cover the "meats". I love the old Rally wheels so I am leaning toward the VN327 Wheels from American Racing. I plan to put 18"x12" on the rear and 18"x10" on the front with original 4" backspacing. Does anyone see any issue with this set up? Second question, I am not having much luck on identifying a good tire for this width of wheel, what would you guys recommend? It will mainly be just a street cruiser with the occasional autocross.

I believe that requires significant flares, right?

That's also going to give you a lot of scrub... steering wheel will be pulling in your hands at every groove and imperfection in the road. It might look good, but won't be much fun on distance cruises.

Thanks for the thoughts on scrub radius, I didn't really know about this. That may change my thoughts on the wide fronts.

Just asking about mods to make those 18 x 12's fit. A 335 or 345 series tire is going to be a good choice, size wise for that rim.
Also... Check out the thread I made about the VN327's I bought for my truck last year. I was NOT impressed with the finish quality...

I asked this on a corvette forum, but I have not got a response. After considering what was said above about the scrub I am considering sticking with a stock 8" wheel up front. My question is would it look stupid to have a 12" wide rim in the rear and keep the 8" in the front. Does anyone have pics of a setup like this on a C3 corvette. I am thinking of a Porsche setup where it has a wide flared rear end, but not flared at the front. I don't really want a pro-street look, I am going for a pro-touring look (low and wide).
