Cast wheels ok for the track?

I received my tires for my 69 Firebird TA track/street car: Toyo R888 275's and 315's. Initially I was set on Vintage Wheel Works V40's, but would like some input on durability of cast wheels with track usage. I know there are guys out there that use them and maybe I'm over-thinking this, but will they be strong enough or is a forged wheel necessary for "hobby" track usage?

Cast should be fine as long as it is from a reputable manufacturer. Most of the cast wheels are made in China these days but if its from a good company they have quality set in place to make sure they are reliable. Wheels Pros / American Racing has pretty good quality control, check them out too. Forged are much lighter tho but of course more expensive. If you can do forged its a nice way to go as the unsprung weight is so much less so your wheels and suspension will react much better at the track.

Yes, he does. Not sure where Vintage Wheel Works are made.

According to Billet Specialties, their Mag wheels are 100% cast and machined in America.

with a reputable manufacturer cast wheels are fine, if you buy some eBay wheels from some shop in Long beach named Phils tires and the boxes show up with import decals on them I might be worried, but Vintage wheel works, Coys, Team 3, Rocket, Circle Racing, American racing, should all be fine they have a lot on the line and sell a tested and true product

I just bought some Mag-G's for that reason.

I bought my 17x9.5 MB's from Discount Tire. They balanced out well and I beat the snot of them on a daily basis, I hit 2 round abouts and several nice curves on the way to work. I've drag race and autocross tracked the car and I have no complaints. They're heavier, if you're one of those worried about every little ounce, but whatever. I'm not a professional racer so I really don't care, they cost me $150 each and get me down the road.

I have used the MB wheels great wheels, they are the old Coys design and imported by Voss wheels now, there are alot of other places to loose weight cheaper on the car than wheels...I could loose 50 lbs just by putting my 225lb butt on a diet...way cheaper than 5000 dollar wheels...just saying

I would probably be more comfortable running a one piece cast wheel from a reputable manufacturer than a 3 piece forged wheel from a company which doesn't have any involvement in Motorsports.

when I purchased my VWW V45's 10 years ago I thought they were 100% made in US of A, Has that changed if they are Chinese it's news to me, bergers59 please inform us as to when this has changed,
