If you go slow and take your time it will do minimal damage that will be easily fixed when folding the edge over. The real pain is the gorilla snot holding the skin to the frame but heating the frame help loosen it's grip. Another useful bit of info, both hoods I've de-skinned had twelve spot welds, four on each side, front and back.

Rick, I am going to have to use that trick. As you've seen I picked up that grabber hood. Wondering how I want to do it. The nose is rotted out, plan to extend the nose a little bit... but not quite sure how I should go.

I am thinking of graphing in a cowl to the hood, but idk. Ideas?

Has a small dent in the center behind the nose, maybe 6" should be able to massage that out.

Should I peel the skin off of this gently, and graph it onto one of my good hoods?

Levi, check the Mav forums, I posted a response there. When I get home from work today I'll take some pictures of a thought and post them up for you.

Are you referring to a cowl induction scoop? Those hoods already have a raised look in the center. Id make the vents functional instead. Maybe even making an extractor vent or two would work. Ive also seen a couple of mavs with a nice looking carbon fiber hood, but those aren't cheap

yeah made by Maverick man from maverick.to

Hes starting to make them doing the better process now, better weave pattern/lighter/stronger..atleast for the cowl hoods anyways

I originally wanted to go with Maverick man's hood, but I'll be extending the hood so it wouldn't work for what I am trying to do.

As far as making the vents functional, i do plan on it. But would like a cowl hood. I think iI can get the vent section to roll into the cowl seamlessly. To many people have cowl hoods or grabber hoods, but never have seen both.

      Just a thought though.

When I get home I'll go over to the shop and use the roller and break to get a cowl piece bent and set it on the hood and go from there.

      Other ideas?

Thanks rick, I saw it. Let me know what your come up with.

If you make the scoops functional, you'll see the shock towers....that's the reason very few people do it.
With that hood, I'd just take a grinder to the edges, and just grind it off enough for the skin to come off, then just weld up the edges.

I won't have shock towers, and if I make them functional I'll have some kind of duct work to force it to the air intake. The cowl would be to dissipate the heat from the motor, and have air pressure force out from air intake from the radiator area.

Im not the best artist, but think you'll give the visual aspect of what I am thinkin.

Here is a idea that I had so I sketched it out, then transferred it to line drawing via Illustrator.

      Idea's?

Those faux inlet nostrils are pretty small, and are in a pretty poor location, for functionality. Honestly, I think the other hood has more promise.

. It's a decent roller, and that's about it, for now. Gotta start somewhere.

the grabber vents should be on the cowl, like originally A Guy just did this a couple years? back with a Buick GS hood
keep the grabber vents proportionate to the stock grabber hood that way they're still along the side of the cowl, not below it like in your illustration

Mavericks are nice little cars, and you are blessed with a pretty nice one as your starting point. I'd resist the urge to get too wild with body mods. Choosing just a few features to highlight with subtle, tasteful modification will make for a more stand-out end result. If it were my project, I'd do something with that original hood, which seems to be in great shape. In my opinion, it's a much better looking hood than the one with the faux nostrils. Just looking at its contours, I think a 'Cuda style shaker would be a perfect aesthetic fit for that hood:

I agree, I think it would look more visually pleasing by having the back section of the grabber vent roll more seamlessly into the top portion of the cowl. The front section before the vent would be ok if it was a little sharp, but the base would have to follow the body line how it rolls into the peak and sharp at top.

I do not plan on going to wild with the body mods. Just a few small things. Really only thing on the body is hood/extended, lights, and bumpers. Everything else is going to be stock. And right now the front lights are the only thing I am not sure of. I have to order a pair and mock them up to see if they'll even go with the car visually -- I would image they would, but not sure.

Although I can appreciate the shaker hoods, I just feel that it wouldn't look very good imo. I do appreciate the idea though.

Someone posted this on my other thread. I like the direction, but like I state in the top section of this post. Also, it couldn't be that large of a cowl. Im looking for maybe 3" at the back of the hood for height.

I'm not a fan of that hood..But like you said ,if you could blend the scoops into the cowl, maybe a little like a Cobra R hood..??..

Yes. When I get home I'll get some metal bent and set it on there then throw some green tape on it to get a visual of what's lt will look like. If it's good, I'll go with it, if it doesn't then.. Well... I'll be looking at something else haha.

Here is another picture of a different angle. I would make the cowl more wider to roll from the vent instead of dipping down then back up to form the cowl.
