I'm the only one kinda diggin' that old school flared Camaro? Some sidepipes and lowering, different wheels... it's got potential IMHO.

After a little research it looks like you're confusing the Holden Gemini with the Holden Torana (the black one). The Gemini was the same as the Isuzu I-mark, and shared more stuff and body parts with it, but the Torana preceded it historically and has a different chassis and body, though similar styling cues. I also think the Torana was RWD as opposed the to the Gemini/I-mark, which was FWD. Bit of a difference there.

You're not the only one, as that's similar to what I'd like to do with my '70 GS, but mine will not be as subtle. You might call it a GSterossa, when it's done. LOL

The rendering of the Nova is sweet, but they're screwing up the execution by having the ride-height to high, with the flares too low, the same problem with the blue Camaro on the last page. IMHO, flares look right when it looks like they were used out of necessity, like on a race car. When it looks as though they were used at stock ride-height, it just looks wrong. Slam that Nova and move the flares up to the top of the fender, then they'll be onto something good, as they were with the rendering.

Monteboy84 I am not sure it is fair to compare a european touring car, Trans-Am car, or American touring car to a street driven Nova. Also would depend on the period of sportscars you look at. Take this Camaro that raced at LeMans. Plenty of ride height there.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/Le_Mans19820620080-1.jpg
Or this Javalin at the 24 hours of Daytona.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/Daytona19791125039-1.jpg
Or this Camaro that raced in Europe

I should have clarified a little better, I was primarily referring to the amount of fender left above the tire, which is minimal. You'll notice that both Camaro's have minimal fender remaining, and (To me at least) look 'right', whereas the AMC has a bunch of fender up there and looks pretty goofy. Not to mention that with the Nova in question, the rendering looks "right" with what looks to be about 6 inches of front ground clearance, whereas the car itself looks like it will have an excessive amount, about 8 inches, of ground clearance. I wasn't trying to knock the build, just a bit of constructive criticism. I just would hate to see someone put a bunch of money and time into what would otherwise be a very cool car, and end up with something goofy like the silver Camaro in my first post that just doesn't look right due to something simple like ride-height and flare construction. That guy's friends probably all thought his Camaro looked funny in progress, but told him it looked good for fear of hurting his feelings....

Regarding the "Nascar Nova" I think the stance in the rendering looks great - it's not a modern look, but definitely has some Mad Max appeal with the rake and steelies.

that silver car reminds of the Speedster Harry Hamlin drove in the movie "King of the Mountain". Dennis Hopper drove a 56 or so for pickup but also had a pretty wicked but really beat 60's vetter too and there was also a pretty nice 69 mustang fastback that buys a gas meter or something and blows the F*** up. any way it's pretty cool for an 80's movie. here's a link for the speedster http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_164459-Porsche-356-Speedster-Replica.html

J Bittle was my best buddy in college (Texas A&M). The legend and stories still live on to this day in the Texas A&M Sports Car Club... J had a 1967 Shelby GT500 with a Tunnel Port 427 and I had a 1965 Corvette Convertible with a 365hp/327 4-speed, 4.11 setup... :headbang:

I've blasted all around Southern California in that car... It was a blast!! :drive:

Here a few pictures of our adventures...

Geeezus... back in the Mission Gorge days !

I was hoping that this would have been part of the discussion. The Dominator is an old project of mine as well... I did the transmission and differential many, many times in both hatch backs (if you know the difference of the cars I'm refering.)

Last time I played with that car on Mission Gorge was when John and I were stuffing a different brake package on it. Well... the last, last time... was installing another ring and pinion into it just after the super charger came off and it went to a private sale.

We never could get that thing into 'sound regulations'... especially at the Murph...

Yeah, the Dominator started life with a Capri back hatch (J thought it had a better aero shape):

and at a later date he switched back to a Mustang back hatch:

I don't want to get off subject, so I guess I should make a new build post. Anyway, I moved over 5% of the weight rearward with the aluminum v6 bowtie motor, lightweight fenders/bedsides, hood, hood support and radiator out back.

Also, ditched the 4l80E and in the process of converting to Tremec T-56 Magnum and keeping AWD.

cheezy flares don't make it widebody or a muscle car
Wasn't exactly the first car in this thread to not fit the title...

Very cool thread quite a walk down 70's lane, but nothing gets your BP up like a flared IMSA car. I sure like the smooth look of the wide body 65 Mustang, 98 Supra and 2010 Corvette. Might just cut one up soon... If I had the talent to complete it.

I think I AutoX'd with a guy that had one of these. At the time I thought he did it.
I don't recall all the details about who built them, but I know the Dallara kit was available for purchase aftermarket if anyone wanted to build their own.

BTW, the Fiat X1/9 can be a very very very potent handler with good sized tires, strut upgrade, and a couple other mods. There's an article somewhere out there showing how they got an X1/9 to absolutely spank the crap out of several '80s supercars with some simple suspension mods and a bit of a power boost with a tuned engine. We're going to turbo my father's '79 X1/9 sometime this year... should be a good time. :)

That's my dads CP camaro that we've been building. I was driving # 136 - he's in #36.
I have a lot more up-to-date photos and a few video's. Body work and paint are 95% complete.

A recent shot (Sept 2009) of me in the car with the 16x14 wide slicks.
Car is set-up just a tad too soft, lifting inside front
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/07/CP_2009_Joel_02-1.jpg

Now a bunch of how the car runs with 17x11.5 CCW's and Hoosier A6's.
The Rims sits a bit further inside the flares.
Front tires are 315's and rears are 335's.

What I love is the optical illusion of flares on that 63 SW Sting Ray Grand Sport makes people think it has a wider body than my 64 Sting Ray street car...LOL

I can sit my 64's body on it's frame an it will covers those rear tires sticking out from under it's flares in rear and run a wider tire on front. on top of that, my car has 2.0" of space between a 11.5" tire and frame that allows it to run even wider tire.:spank2:

Guess it's better to look racy rather than classie...:nopity::hand:

New guy here, & in case you are wondering i did just sign up to post in here but the more I look around this looks like a pretty informative place so I will be spending some time here hoping to learn & contribute a little here & there. I wish I had found this a few years ago when I started my wide body camaro project. I figured since this thread was asking to see wide body camaros & other muscle cars I would share my project. Its a 1999 Z28, I made the quarters, fenders, rockers, spoiler, nose, & rear bumper. The bumpers are going through a slight redesign right now but you will get the idea. Each corner is 2" wider than stock & I'm running 295's up front & 335's in the rear.

Ok here is what I am seeing with that 2nd gen Z28. It appears to be the real deal. It also appears unmolested. Most race cars back then evolved with time and as the rules opened up. This as stated has the 302 which it would have to run in series like Trans-Am which required engines under 310 cubic inches. going into the mid 70's engine rules opened up for series like IMSA and engines grew. The nose probably would have been changed for a more aero 2nd gen one. This is quite the car.

No custom chassis.. All DSE suspension...

Just to give it a wider look & fit big tires.. plus the track is a bit wider.. 295-35-18 on the front.. not easy to do without flaring..

Don't know much about the car. Must be a '69 or '70 A-pillar and roof. Picture was from Sears Point/Infineon years ago.

Yeah, the Dominator started life with a Capri back hatch (J thought it had a better aero shape):
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/06/1989_Ford_Mustang_JBA_Dominator_GTA_Modi-1.jpg

and at a later date he switched back to a Mustang back hatch:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/06/Scan4-1.jpg

They also built the "GTB" car... A white version:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/06/Scan61-1.jpg

Wow! Small world! Lots of 'Bittle connections :D

The top car is the original car that was used for all the mock-ups. The second red car was J's '87 Saleen R. The White car was one of the first customer cars... if memory serves me correct.. it started life as a '86 GT and was later painted yellow...

I was 19 or 20 when the J. Bittle car and kit came out. I also owned a 89 LX 5 point slow at the time and wanted the Bittle kit in the worst way. Unfortunately, they wanted something like $4,000 for the kit, which was stupid money, considering I bought the Mustang for $13K out the door, brand new! I heard Nirvana's Teen Spirit on the radio for the first time driving that Mustang, and life was not the same. I feel old now...
