Ok guys give me some input. Thinking of upgrading my front subframe. I have looked at DSE, Art Morrison, Speedtech and Chris Alston. Tell me what you like and dont like. I currently have a Fatman Fab and I am not interested in going with anything similar to this. Got talked into this subframe by the first shop that had my car prior to Prodigy. Frank wasnt crazy about it when he got the car and now I know why. THANK YOU Frank for talking me into changing the rear suspension to the awesome Prodigy Bar setup man the rear end REALLY hooks up nicely. Now why didnt you make me change the front:pat:. I know I know $$$$...
Here is what I am looking for
1. Little more meat on the front 10" wheel as much tire as I can fit comfortably. currently 245/40s
2. Better handling. Everyday driving and occasional autocross.
Those are the main objectives. I like to have some outer lip on the wheel, not sure which subframes but some seem to push the centers out more than others.
And a wheel question. If I can get a 10" wheel on with the new subframe is it possible to use part of my existing Forgeline wheel and have them modified. Seems like this could be done with a 3 piece wheel?

DSE is perfect in everyway for you. The fact they are down the street, and I can grab the subframe when I grab the car, no shipping which is a lot. The DSE Frame uses a 6 1/8" BS on a 10" wheel which will give you 1/2" more lip then you have now. The Art Morrison is 7 1/8" BS so you will get more lip with the DSE, and yeah, those DSE subframes work pretty damn well as you saw your self at RTTHs.
I will be in South Caroline tomorrow, want me to come get it, LOL! Or you want to keep it another couple months before winter. I have 2 more projects coming back to Fayetteville in November. I can grab it then.

Lets shoot for November, if you get it done by December I can pick it up on the way back from Disney. Its still driveable and I am driving the shiat out of it every chance I get. I think the engine is starting to loosen up a bit. FEELS GOOD
So how about the wheels? Can we get something done with the wheels on it? Got a wheel stretcher LOL...

As far as aftermarket subframes, it seems to all come down to personal preference. For my money, it would either be DSE or AME.
I would tend to prefer an OEM based suspension, such as the AME unit. The only reason for this is parts availability. We never really know how long manufacturers are going to be around. Years from now (if I still have this car) I would imagine finding a C5/6 A-arm will be much easier than sourcing something for the DSE frame.
I'm sure someone with a little more experience will speak up about remaking the wheel. From what I've seen so far, half of your cost is the center, and half is the hoop. To have them re-hooped it's usually around half the cost of the wheel, plus ancillary expenses such as shipping.

As for the wheels, that is the great thing about with 3 piece wheels, you just re hoop them!

Hey Frank will my front brakes work with the DSE Subframe?

No, we will have to get different brakes for any subframe we use.

Check with DSE, but I think some of their parts are borrowed from a Vette suspension. The nice thing is, they are very scienced out (both from a geometry and durabilty standpoint). They are also designed to work well on the street as well as autocross and roadcourse. For a great all around suspension that's the way I would go, if I had the dough.

The front is Corvette based and your Fatman sub if Mustang 2 based. And there is not another Mustang 2 based sub I would do, so we will be selling those brakes on the subfram. Those are nice ice cream stand cruiser subframes, we should be able to get a few grand for it to offset cost.

I like Jake's stuff and DSE. Since you want a lip on your wheel DSE is really the only choice. Very nice sub and the performance speaks for itself.
Loved your car by the way!

I'm running a little more lip than most with the DSE frame with my race setup. Forgeline shaved some material off the hat to get the backspacing perfect. However, you must run a 13" rotor and you will need longer studs in your c6 hubs to make it work.

Thanks for input guys. Guess I will be going DSE... Now if I can just get my wife to remember saying at the RTTH "If a guy wanted to get his wife to buy in on some upgrades all he has to do is bring her here for the weekend" Working on the budget now.

Sorry to hijack but,
Frank do you know if the second gen frame from Morrison and DSE have different track widths as compared to the difference in the first gens ? Is either frame wider or narrower than stock and do you have the track width dimension for each?
thanks,
-Tom

The track is very close to stock on both, the AM is a tick wider, but I do not have the numbers in front of me and am packing for vegas for Barret Jackson.
Hit me up after next Tuesday is you need exact numbers.

Thanks, I'll ask again later.
I'm confused, how do the two different subs use an inch different backspacing number if the track is almost the same?
thanks,
-Tom

Wheel offset.....
As offset goes positive backspace increases?

Backspace is just how it sounds. The distance from the inside wheel lip to the hat mounting surface.

DSE is nice... but whats wrong with Martz??? They have a Rally/Road Race setup that can run a 10in wide tire at half the price and that includes Wilwood brakes...

Unless they have made some improvements I think a search of this site will give you an answer to that question. Generally this issue is (was) that it flexes.

Yes, and a whole range of other issues. Does anybody want to buy mine, it is up for sale?
