'65 Chevelle Mini Tub how to

I am currently disassembling my 65 ss and am ready to have the body either dipped or media blasted. Once it is returned I hope to mini tub the rear but have no experience in this area and was wondering if anyone had any tips regarding this operation. I know DSE has their kit for camaros but does anyone know of anything for Chevelles? I want to run 18s but am unsure on tire size, amount to narrow rear end, what size tubs, trunk hing relocation, etc. Any previous knowledge or expereince would be appreciated, thanks.

I believe you have to narrow the rear frame rails and make your own mini tubs by cutting out a strip of filler metal, I believe thats how steilow did it on malitude

Frank at Prodigy Customs just did that to my GTO, same basic car. You might want to check out his website where he posted several pictures about it or pm him. I am sure he could steer you in the right direction. He made enough room under mine to put 345.25x20 on so I know it can be done. Here is a link to the site. Look in the current project section and Bills GTO

I know PHR did a feature on the Malitude where they had some pics of Steilow narrowing the frame. Does anyone know how many inches? Thanks Bill for your sound advice!

      Mini Tub

A 275/35R20 will fit with no frame mods! I have a 64 and I bought a set of Nittos that were this size frist But I have since sold them I am now going to run a 295/40R20 I do believe I will have to narrow the frame though! And I am pretty sure Frank at prodigy narrowed bills rails as well! But I am sure HE will chime in and tell us for sure!

There are no mini tub kits for these cars that I am aware off!

Sorry, I could have done that. I think he narrowed ( moved inward) the frame about 3" on each side and added the same amount to each tub.

      65 Chevelle

Go to www.madmachines.com and click on projects, then click on the drawing of the 65.

Mike Desmond built a sick car with a chassisworks subframe. I plan to run 345/30/19's in my 64 but he's running 305/50/20's and it looks sick. Good luck.

There are no kits really for mini tubbing like the camaros. Mark Stielow brought it frame rails in 2" per side and was able to get a 315 tire in there with 3/4 of and inch per side of clearence. I have finished the proscess on the frame and will be doing the body really soon. if you have any questions I can try and walk you through it check Out my Demonic obsidian thread to see some pics.
