Definitely no projectors. Do you have space behind your light buckets for a retrofit?

I have a special place reserved in my heart for guys with HIDs and no projectors.

HID w/out projectors is still better than most regular bulbs, correct? Any heads up on a good place to find projectors?

The problem with using HIDs without projectors is the glare youre putting out. Diffused lenses/housings are not designed to put the high intensity light where it should be. Too much of the bright light is sent into oncoming drivers eyes. While you may benefit from having "more light", youre blinding the crap out of everyone else. I promise you will be flashed.

As far as which brand is best? Ive been using $40/pr EBAY HIDs for 2 years in my Sierra with 0 issues.

Im currently doing this to my car now - http://www.bobclevenger.com/headlight_project.html

Lights are pointed more towards the ground not blinding anyone plus the car is lowered. Thanks

Barrrf is right, no matter how you point the lights they are going to be blinding oncoming traffic. In some countries the HID's are illegal without the projectors. I had contemplated doing the HID kits and decided against it once I did a little research. Not trying to be that guy, but it can be a distraction for oncoming drivers.

Im not trying to be a **** at all. HIDs are not a must have. And youre going to get brighted. Its impossible to point your light down enough to not glare oncoming traffic with diffused style lenses/housings.

To each their own, but I hope you have your bright switch in close reach.

Also, do all 4 of your lights come on when you hit the brights? If not, you might want to consider modding it for that. Because of the warm up time of the HIDs, you'll be without full light for a few seconds when you switch from high to low.

      Hey guys,
I've mostly been a lurker but this one I had to comment on. I worked as a Design Engineer in the lighting industry for over 17 years. There's a reason why DOT approved HID systems are so expensive. It takes a lot of engineering and design work to make a legal HID headlamp, especially a reflector system. In a reflector type HID, over half of the light coming off of the burner (bulb), is shielded and unused. That's why projector systems are preferred, you get to use more of that light.
To the one comment: No, you can't aim them down low enough to keep from blinding oncoming drivers. The optics in your lenses will direct/glare the stray light right back into oncoming eyes.
One thing you have in your court is that most police are uneducated about what constitutes a legal lamp and what does not. If you are using euro spec housings, you probably don't have the DOT stamp on the lens either. This is what will get you when the right guy pulls you over.
Yeah, I hate to be that guy too, but as an oncoming driver...I hate 'em...especially in the rain.

So, any good leads on how to convert the correct way? Projectors, housings, so on... I'm considering the same conversion on my C10 that has the stock rectangular lamps, I believe 4X6 or 5X7ish. I'd like to do it the right way, but don't really know where to start. I've found the sealed beam conversions, but having trouble with projectors. If I'm post-jacking this thread too much, I'll stop, but I feel it's along the same lines.

I saw some projector housing in squares and rectangles on ebay. Otherwise, cut the housings and epoxy some morimotos in there. Its not incorrect at all to do it this way. BUT, you have make sure you have room behind your buckets to do it. I have to cut my core support a bit to fit those in.

Well, it wouldn't be the first thing I've cut up on the pickup! I'll do some googling, thanks for the shove in the right direction.

4"x6" with HID "kit" - probably not the best to buy. However, I would buy and run them and if I liked them I would buy "better" stuff when the cheap stuff died. (I realize this link will die soon - sorry to future searchers)

For what its worth, I was going to go the same direction. I bought some Bosch h4 conversion headlights, and for temporary just used the regular H4 bulbs that you buy at a parts store, I think it was 55/60 watt. I am more than happy with the way that they are at night. There is plenty of light and I don't see any need to upgrade now.

After doing a little research, I think I'll buy the clear housing like in the Ebay link, but order Morimoto and install them. Any opinions on this kit for the bulbs and ballasts?

I have a dealer account set up with them, and have great customer service so far. I have found the projectors on other sites, but I don't know if I want to mix and match products.

I have no opinions on that kit in particular BUT I would like to point out how similar it looks to this MUCH cheaper ebay product - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mid-Slim-HID...402d19&vxp=mtr

I understand the customer service aspect of it though. When I purchased my ebay HID kit I made it came from a US shipping location. Sure enough one of the ballast arrived DOA - and they shipped me a new one free of charge and didnt even ask for the broken one back. I cant find that seller on ebay anymore though - pity.

I ordered a few thing that were supposed to come with free t-shirts or key chains. They'd forget to put it in the box or they'd put the wrong size. I emailed them and got it straightened out, I now have like 3 t-shirts, 1 that fits great, 2 that the wife will love next time she is pregnant!

from your lighting pic looks like you have hot spots/beam scatter
should of did a more distant lighting pic to show how bad or good the light cutoff and or hotspot/beam scatter is

best to just get an ebay "projector light" (for the clear non fluted lens)which you can find without the crappy supplied hid/ballest stuff and then buy quality stuff from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/index.php?cPath=25
then unseal the ebay housing, take out the supplied 48mm projector, trim housing to accept the bought used projectors then reseal and install in car.

Like said above. Please be respectful and remove them. I ran traditional bulbs until I wanted HID's. Heres a pic...
