      Project 'mater

My son recently turned 15 and asked for a '53 Chevy Truck project. Well, here it is.

Nice. Mega points if you actually build it into a life-size 'mater ;)

A 'mater that can corner. That would be cool!

It's great seeing someone younger having interest in older cars/trucks. Even better that he had a certain year that he wanted. I'm sure there is a story behind it somewhere. Make sure to post progress pics and make him learn the hard way. LOL Like we had to.

Thanks everyone. I love this site and the support. Love your truck too drylegmcrae! There is a bit of a story. My father passed Dec 28th, 2010 after a battle with cancer. A few days later, for therapy, I went with my uncle (dads twin brother) and bought the mustang that I've been working on the last couple of years. My oldest son (Jake) who I got the truck for isn't a very outwardly emotional person. When it came up that he wanted a project he wanted one of these trucks.....which just happens to be the type of truck my dad always wanted to do but never got the chance.

Enough mushy stuff . Working on the budget for this build. Yes it will have a budget, unlike the project creep I've had. Either going to find a donor new vehicle and swap the body onto a new chassis or build a frame and do disc brakes, etc. Handling is going to be much more of a priority than power. The biggest body mod is we're going to turn it into an extended cab. I will definitely post pics as it progresses and yes, he will have to put a lot of his own money, blood, sweat and tears into it.

When you do the extended cab will you be able to keep the corner windows? That would be sweet.
