      efi questions?

ok my original plan was to set up a multi port set up on my 401. it would be similar to a tune port set up as it would be fuel only pcm controlled but using the a 4 bb intake drilled and throttle body. the dist would still be in place and no crank or cam sensors. just linked up via hei. i had the plan to megasquirt and to basically start with a bbc tune and modifing it to my needs. it would be only a bank to bank system. ok now for my question would there be any gain from a tbi set up like an estreet. i like the tbi clean looks but def want efi. my main concern is cold start and mpg. if its going to be a slight gain or no gain idk if its worth the headache.

Multi-point (even batch-fire) is always better than TBI. The advantage of TBI is the lack of intake manifold modifications.

Cold start is a tuning parameter as much as MPG. EFI atomizes the fuel to a smaller micron through higher pressures and the nozzle design. The smaller the fuel droplet, the easier it is to get a complete burn and use less fuel than a similar carb setup, but that requires tuning, i.e. you have to tune to a target A/F ratio. You can see that utilizing the self learn systems makes this much less time consuming.

A TBI vs. batch fire is going to be close. On a carb 4bbl intake, I'd lean toward the TBI systems and take advantage of the newer dual plane technology. Going multi port or batch would probably be better suited to a single plane.

I assume you mean using your HEI reluctor as the cam sensor?

Yes the E-street or similar new self learning EFI would be easier to plug and play. Their are lots of EFI tuners who will do your WOT tuning, but really get slack on part throttle drivability tuning. The difference in paying a tuner versus buying a self learning system is a wash. The self learn allows you to change or upgrade parts without paying the tuner again.

BTW, on more radical combo's, a tuner will still be needed even for a self learn.

I have a holley terminator efi on my ls engine in my 69 Camaro. works great, great cold starting, self learning and gets better mileage than my old carbed system. Cant go wrong with it.

      Hey fellow buick buddy
Just go with the holley efi retro fit kit and send intake out to get modded..steel injectors from Ross if you don't have an aluminum intake
Bank to bank will work well

cant run anything other than the stock intake............unless had a custom 1 off done. engine is a 62 nailhead. i can do the dual plane mod to it and run the tbi. cost wise i the bank to bank is a little cheaper sice i can use parts from the junk yard. that said i do like the blue tooth control of the estreet and its clean looks. anyone know if you can buy the estreet setup and use your own tablet so you dont have to purchase theres? i know i can get the software from the site but never seen it for sale with out the tablet.

if You ever see yourself eventually upgrading from TBI to MPFI
better choice would be Holley EFI(new throttlebody and injector harnesses with 8 injectors for upgrade) or even accel DFI as their TBI system may be upgraded to MPFI down road too without ditching whole efi system

for Holley 64duece from More Racecraft on this board
for Accel Supremeefi from V8Buick will hook ya up
