Single Adjustable Shocks: Rebound only vs Compression + Rebound

Regarding single adjustable shocks: (given: the single adjustable is less versatile than a double adjustable)

On the surface it would seem that the single adjustable with simultaneous rebound + compression
adjustment would provide more performance advantage than the rebound only single adjustable when
      set to similar rebound.

      Thoughts?

Problem I've run into with single adjustable compression/rebound adjustment is the shock bouncing under high load. Could be the brand of shock I'm using......dont know for sure but I recommend double adjustables.
